Brushing a puppy....
Posted to: News & Entertainment
Rudy is our 4-month old long-haired chihuahua mix puppy (we think he's mixed with yorkie/poodle). So, given that combination, he's got some funky hair working! It's pretty long and curly, and impossible to brush! He is my first dog, and I know diddly-squat about grooming. Shouldn't...

Posted to: Health & Grooming
I have a three year old Weimaraner, and he has developed some strange bump/lump on his nose. When we tried to touch it, he got a little agitated, and started to have a really runny nose. It was runny on the right side of his nostril, and gooey mucus was coming out of the left side. He's also...

General Q about Barking!!
Posted to: Training & Behavior
I am getting my new baby Cali on Friday. She is my first dog. Shes an 8 week old ice white Pomeranian. I wondered if there was anything I could do right away to condition her NOT to bark and disturb my neighbors. (I live in an apt. in LA and yapping would definitely not make me a likeable neighbor right...

Are you a crossover?
Posted to: Training & Behavior
I thought I'd start this thread so that members could hear about the experiences of ordinary dog owners who have made the switch from traditional training methods using slip collars and dominance techniques, etc. to methods that use food or toys as rewards, and flat collars, clickers, etc. This is...

Dropping red blood count
Posted to: Health & Grooming
I have a 9 year old male miniture dachshund. About a month ago we brought him to the vet because he had low energy and lost weight. They did a CBC and his red blood count was below 10. They did a blood transfusion and put him on medication (prednisone cyclophosphamide). $2400 later they still dont know...

This is how it should be
Posted to: News & Entertainment
For those of you who know, I've had some vet troubles in the past. Everytime I take Ash to the vet, they want to examine her in the back, without me present, because they say it will be better "for all of us". Ash is already a nervous dog around strangers and I think this made her vet trips...

White worms in poop
Posted to: News & Entertainment
A stray golden retriever has made his way into our lives as we try to find his owners. Last night when he went poop, the poop was regular and had no visible worms or problems. This afternoon, he pooped, strained and also had diahrrea. There were visible moving white worms. There is also evidence that...

Is there a such thing as a harness that doesn't break hair??
Posted to: News & Entertainment
So Cherokee wears a harness, because she chokes constantly with a collar. She has one of those normal "perfect fit" harnesses, that actually doesn't fit her very well, it's too big, but the smaller size has 3/4" straps, as if the 1" doesn't mess up her fur badly enough...

Small dogs are big
Posted to: Choosing A Dog
Small dogs have gotten to be very popular. Unfortunately, people are breeding them to be so small they die young. My aunt has a teacup yorkie, named Fritz. Cute but kind of annoying. Barks too much. He is aggressive towards larger dogs, which I guess would be all other dogs, considering his size. He...
