two car accidents in one week

i saw may friend last friday night...he asked me how i was...i told him thatit had been the best day of my life...why?

in the morning i had gotten into a serious car accident driving my daughter to school with the new car (my fault...everyone ok...insurance paying for damage)...later that day, my other car was towed to the nyc "car pound" when my son parked illegally...and my wife got a ticket for going through a red light....that's beside the fact that the day before my wife lost her good job, and a week and a half before that, i had an angioplasty for a blocked artery.

well, he asked me why it was such a great day...well, because i never lost my cool and just rolled with the punches....there had been a time in my life when i would not have been so cool.

well, i guess the Divine Power decided to give me another great day the next friday...my son called me up friday morning, and said i shouldn't cry...someone made a sudden turn and crashed into him...totaled the other car (2003 corolla)..son was ok (other driver had a broken leg)...

well, the repercussions on insurance can be serious now...two accidents (our record was clean for the longest time) and our son in one of them....and I STILL STAYED COOL.

my son's friend died this summer in a freak drowning in australia...everyone has  G-d mess on 'em in life, for whatever reason He has...so, as i see it, better it be cars, money, etc that He messes on...

    so, so far, so cool.

Your positive attitude is wonderful - keep it up. Glad no one was seriously injured in the mishaps.

When I have weeks like that, and I don't have them frequently, but when I do, I find it quite theraputic to kill someone.

I'm glad everyone is okay. Thats the main thing.

I'm glad everyone is ok, but if I can offer you any advice (and if NY insurance companies are like PA ones) get your son on his own policy. It will cost more, but in PA, you'd be close to being dropped, and then being assigned to a company with extremely high rates. If you aren't on the same policy, you're further from that occurring. My parents did that with my sister to avoid being dropped.

griffine, my hope is that the insurance company of the guy who caused the accident will pay for all, and my company won't find out about it...we shall see.

I lived in NY my whole life up until a few months ago..... and as long as there is a claim on ONE of the cars involved, even if the other guy's insurance pays, yours will find out.  They may even have to fight for you to get their insurance to pay.  But they know.  And RARELY does it end up being 100% the other person's fault.... I think you get at least a bit of the fault for being alive and on the road at all or something.

So.... I do wish you the best of luck with the car insurance people.  Sometimes if it is only a small claim they won't count it against you.... and I know Progressive and Allstate do, or at least did, "rate" the accidents and give points like the DMV does and goes from there.

But, good job with being positive thru it all!!  I suppose there's always a way out of a situation........

My son after graduating high school did two nights on third shift and fell asleep at the wheel and rolled his car.  I'll never, as long as I live, forget that phone call at 7a.m. Saturday morning or seeing him covered in blood on a back board in the Emergency room at the hospital where I work.  Everyone got to see me fall apart just from the relief.  I can handle 22 stitches in his head.  He worked the summer and got a new car and had it on the road 4 days and got t-boned!!!  He was OK.  Car number two, totaled.   I do have to teach my kids not to start off a phone call with "Mom don't panic"  I know how proud you must be not blowing   your cool because I'm just as proud not getting stuck in the worry mode to the point of being paralyzed.  All three kids have their own insurance.  It was a fight at first with my older son but I have always told them that driving is a privilege not a birth right. Sorry to hear about your friend.  Congrats to you and your luck has to change for the better now.

    update: some good news
the insurance company of the other guy accepted full responsibility for the damage...so i believe my insurance company will never know of the accident...

    further update...

i am getting over $13,000 for the car (including for the salvage)
car is 3-1/2 years old....paid about $17,000 plus tax....so i think that is pretty cool.

Well thats good. Thank goodness your insurance company wont find out.

I just brought my little sister to my Broker for car insurance, the poor girl will have to pay $350  a month for insurance. Thats just terrible. How do they expect these kids to afford to drive.

They work so much they fall a sleep at the wheel.  Now that he is in college and has his own apartment with a buddy, I help by paying his insurance every other month.   My son has a good policy though.  $74.00 a month.  Not bad for a 19 year old boy in NY. The month I don't pay his insurance I'll treat them with lots of good food and house hold needs.    Faramir,  I'm glad things worked out for you...

It's been said that most accidents happen around a full moon. Police officers will tell that's when the freakiest behavior happens. So good on you for making lemonade out of lemons. As you realize, you're still alive and breathing another day. Or, to put it another way, the last thing out of Pandora's box was Hope, without which Man would have nothing.
