Training & Behavior
Maisie is *almost* houstrained. Only has accidents every month or so. EXCEPT, when we leave her in the bedroom or alone even if we take her out for 30 minutes before. She poops. It's like she's getting back at us for leaving her. Today, I took out the trash and left her in the house for 60 seconds...

Help with training new 10 week old Yorkie
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
All of the research that I've done has me confused. I bring my new 10 week old Yorkie home on Saturday and I want to make sure I start him off right. Can I expect him to sleep in the crate with regular outings during the first night or am I setting myself up for accidents in his crate? I...

"How To Speak Dog" by Stanley Coren, Ph.D.
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I finished reading Stanley Coren's 2000 book "How To Speak Dog" yesterday. Great book, but very scientific. Coren even states in the book that he is a "scientist" in profession. I understand how to read a dog a lot better after reading this. I'll point a few of the many new...

The goober...
Posted to:

He is now Goober. The name was given by Kelly, my 3 yr old. He's 3 weeks old today and has been an awesome little baby. I get plenty of sleep, and he only cries if his tummy hurts. Hopefully he stays this way! Kelly on the other hand was a loud baby. Always upset, cried about everything. ...

The role of empathy and humanising in understanding dogs.
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
This has come up a number of times over the past few days in the CM section. I'm tired of talking to what seems like recitations of CM philosophy over there, so I'm here to hopefully discuss this matter without being beaten about the head with extreme interpretations and deliberate misunderstandings...

Food suggestions

Nutrition & Exercise
I've been reading here about dog food and while I've learned a lot, I've also become quite confused; innundated with ideas and information may be the better words. We're looking to get a puppy in the spring (most likely Rhodesian Ridgeback), so I've been researching food, training...

Dec 31, 2006 my dh and I decide to get a puppy. I admit I was more for it than he was (not that he was against it at all...I was just more excited). We have 2 kids (3 & 6) that have wanted a puppy more than anything. So, we get the puppy and surprise the kids. The kids love the puppy, my dh loves...
