HELP! Can't catch dog when she gets out of the yard
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
Hi all, I need some help with our dog because my husband is very close to sending her to the pound. We have a 2-year-old Lab/Golden mix, who is kept in a fenced yard. She is excellent at finding new ways to leave the fenced yard: digging under, jumping over (when the snow bank is high enough)...

I am almost afraid to jinx it!

Ok, this may be a kind of weird bite inhibition technique, but so far it is really seeming to work. Ben LOVES having his belly rubbed....sort of the pleasure equivalent of me eating a triple chocolate sundae. Anyway, when I first started giving him belly rubs he would get pretty "snappy" with...

How many treats do your dogs get per day?
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
I would like some opinions on this, DH and I are having a little tiff. I think a lot of you know Willow is a very fussy eater and will stop eating for a few days, etc. So, right now, she's eating really well. She hasn't missed a meal in a few days. DH wants to fatten her up, which she...

Choker Chains?
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
Hello, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this post but here goes. Have a 6 month old large breed dog and I was wondering if it is too early to put a choker on her for her walks or if I still need to wait a little bit before I can safely do so. She is about 50 pounds as we speak...

discoloration of fur on eard
Posted to:
Health & Grooming
I have a chocolate lab who is about 3 years old. I have only had him about two years. During that time he has had several ear infections, which just seem to be getting worse. However that is not my whole concern. The fur on his ears has been getting lighter in color and in the recent weeks the fur on...

Frustration, or aggression?
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
I don't know if he's frustrated or just being plain aggressive, but lately, Cyrus has been going out of his mind when he is on-leash and sees other dogs. And it's only when the leash comes up short, and he can't get to the other dog to sniff; he flips out, lunges, snarls, basically makes...

UTI in an elderly dog
Posted to:
Health & Grooming
My 17 y.o. dobX has developed a chronic urinary infection. She has also survived 2 bouts of autoimmune hemolytic anemia and is on prednisone as an immune system suppressant. It also plays havoc with her stomach, so we have to be careful about what she eats and we give her pepsid. The doctor put her...

Kennel vs. friend coming by vs. Stay in another home
Posted to:

I currently have reservations for a five night stay for Dweezil in August at a local kennel. My reason for hesitation here is because when I made the reservation (even though I visited the place and it looked very clean and friendly) the woman on the phone was rude, sarcastic, and was even yelling at...

DH gets little helpful e-mails & passes them on to me. I thought this one was worth passing on. As the days get longer and warmer, you#%92re probably thinking about fun in the sun. But, if you#%92re soaking up some rays, you may get more than you bargain for. Exposure to ultraviolet rays-from...
