How many treats do your dogs get per day?

Russell is still a nutty adolescent, so we still do a lot of training and treating. I carry and give out treats at the dog park (oddly enough he pays much more attention to me when I have them, heh) or any other high-distraction situation where I need a little added allure (sometimes we bring him to bbq's, etc) and also to show off his parlor tricks. [:D] I treat anytime I'm working on a new command, and throw a few into his crate anytime I need to crate him for a while (he goes running in before the treats leave my hand). The only treats I used are thin 1" rounds of dehydrated chicken that I typically break into 2-3 pieces each. I'd say on the average day he gets about five whole pieces.

For Willow's situation, though, I don't think treats are what's called for... that's kind of like fattening up a person by feeding them extra cookies. When humans have to gain wait healthily it's better just to eat more healthy foods, and I'd do the same for the dog.

I have two sizes of treat i give.  One size is about as big as a piece of kibble, i use those for training so i can give a lot of them without upsetting the dogs diet.  The other size is much bigger, but i only use those to put in Kongs.

I make my treats home-made, so i know what goes into them and they're pretty healthy.  I wouldn't give them often, and certainly not every time you go in the kitchen.  Treats are not a good idea to put weight on a dog.  They are for the dog's accomplishments, and for special times (am i the only one who showers my dog with treats on her B-day?).

Mine get treat at night and that is it.  Buck expects TWO on his pillow every night and by gum, there better be two on there or he will let you know you short changed him.  The girls each get one at bed time.  Now Hubby, if I didn't stay on him when he is home, would give them treats every time they moved.  He is constantly worried about his next meal and the same with the dogs.  He would fill their dishes would food if left up to him and swore I was really trying to starve them.  I told him he could drop 40-45 pounds and it wouldn't hurt him at all, and I am not letting the dogs put back on the weight I got off them as the grils were eadh 15 pounds over weight and Buck , well I just wanted to thin him down due to arthritis in spine and hips.

ITA bad idea giving her a treat every time you go to the kitchen.  You will create a bigger ;problems doing that.   Trixie gets a treat before bedtime and sometimes on a walk if needed.
