Cheza got her first trip to the dog park Sunday. She was very shy at first and just stayed close by with us, but she was getting a bit more playful at the end. I should have brought the camera, but I forgot. Next time.. Well anyway.. Rant follows. This woman came in with her 8 week old german shepperd...

Do you find this statement to be true or false? " Statistics prove that the wife does most of the feeding, training, cleaning, and grooming of family pets." Quote found on http://www.bloodhounds.org/page3/page19/rightbreed.html under FAMILY DECISION . Personally, I do find this statement...

My dog ate the dry rose leaf. Do I need to worry?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Came home and saw that my Valentine's Day roses that were on the table dropped some dry leaf on the floor, and one of my dogs apparently ate some of that leaf. Do I have something to worry about? Do I have to call the Vet? Is it dangerous for dogs? Please advice. Thank you guys so much in advance...

Biting!!!!
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
My 4 year old poodle has always had a bit of an agression issue. He has bitten my brother and my ex BF when they tried to force him out from under the bed. He liked to hide there when he didn't want to get in his crate. I have since made it impossible for him to hide under the bed (blocked it). I...

So last night was the night we picked up the new pup. She was due in at 8:30 but things being what they are her plane touched down at more like 9:15. I was a bundle of nerves...esp since her breeder said her sister who went to Fla. arrived skittish and covered in poop! She didn't travel well but...

Health testing at dog shows
Posted to:

Is it a good idea? Bad idea? Why? I'm considering having Emma's eyes checked at an upcoming dog show, because her breed is prone to PRA and PLL. My friend says it may not be the best idea, because they dilate the eyes. I've never seen it done. I was thinking if we did it on the last day,...

Well I had the dogs on kibble from mid Dec. to the first week of February, because of travelling over the holidays (really about 2 weeks! I just got lazy I guess). I tried Nature's Variety Prairie and PetGuard, which is usually one of my favs. For my bichons, on came the tear and beard staining....

Dog Walking - out front or behind?
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
I like walking my dogs out in front of me because it allows me to see what they are doing, preempt and redirect undesired behavior, and I just plain enjoy seeing my dogs enjoying their walk. In the last few months, however, my 8 yo dog, Maggie, has taken to lagging behind me. I have *yet* to see why...
