So last night was the night we picked up the new pup. She was due in at 8:30 but things being what they are her plane touched down at more like 9:15. I was a bundle of nerves...esp since her breeder said her sister who went to Fla. arrived skittish and covered in poop! She didn't travel well but settled down in a couple days.
This was a shorter trip but still factoring in the stop over in SLC? I was prepared. But they brought her crate up and her tail was a thumping along the inside and her eyes were sparkling...lol. Unloaded her and she came right forward and allowed the collar to be put on.
To be honest...her size shocked me. I knew she was big...but I know the Eiffel Tower is big...still didn't get HOW big til I saw it in person. And she was still so PUPPY...frisky as can be...none the worse for her trip. She pulled my over to the grass but didn't pee. Too busy looking around! i figured she'd peed in her crate but nope.
Couldn't bear to put her back in so she rode in the backseat with me. Calm...she put her paws on my thighs and laid her head on her paws and wow...MEEEEELLLTTT. 20 minute drive and she never did more than raise her head at the turns. Got home and DH brought all our pack inside and crated them. She explored the yard....and peed FOR EVER. She held it the whole flight....wow. Good sign!
Back inside and sniffing around...but not like Beagle sniffing lol...cats got their swats in and she is now afraid of them (good). LOVED her Kong....and her turtle toy pinched from Ellie. It's late now so you know what that means....crate.
Outside once more and one more pee....and I had to put her in...she fussed..but I swear her loudest whine seemed from a dog half her size. I slept on the couch near the crate...and she fussed to herself...flopped and flipped (what must she be thinking about this day?) and then began to snore. I slept...I woke up to hear her playing with her Kong in there....quietly. It was almost 4 am...so I took her out (even tho she didn't ask). She peed...and wanted to play....yeah right! Back to crate....smaller amount of fussing....then quiet. Before I noticed, it was time to start our day.
She loves the kids...
So first thing she will need to learn are no potty in the house (hasn't yet)...go willingly into crate, no jump, no bite...and walking nicely on lead. Not so very much...I can do that, right? LOL.
