Hi everyone. If you have any spare vibes or prayers we'd really appreciate is. We're back in the hospial. Willa had a check-up on Tuesday. We ended up being whisked away to the ER where she was poked and prodded and poked some more (including a spinal tap ). She lost too much weight, over 10...

Canidae complete nutritional analysis
Posted to: Nutrition & Exercise
Since I provide a mix of commercial and fresh foods I wanted to do a full nutritional analysis on Prancer's diet to see if any vitamins / minerals might be in excess or deficient. Since Prancer is sensitive to too much fat in her diet I need to find low fat, normal protein level foods. I ended up...

How to tell if a rescue is legit?
Posted to: News & Entertainment
I'm sure this is probably a dumb question, but...how might a person check up on an animal rescue? Like to see if there had ever been any complaints made about it, and to make sure that it wasn't "shady" or anything... Just wondering. TIA.

Lyme, Leptospira and Rabies Vaccines -- Adjuvanted, Killed Vaccines
Posted to: Health & Grooming
When weighing the risk/benefit ratio of vaccinated with a killed, adjuvanted veterinary vaccine, the potential adverse reactions associated with the vaccine adjuvants should be considered. While rabies immunization is required by law, some states accept rabies titers in lieu of vaccination -- for dog...

A corner has been turned!
Posted to: News & Entertainment
I have had an enormously looong day and I almost didn't go to the shelter today. Boy, am I glad I DID go! A little background: about a month ago, a Chinese crested (powderpuff) was turned in by his owner. She informed us that he bites and doesn't like kids. I wasn't there, but the other volunteer...

Posted to: News & Entertainment
Someone just told me that B'asia looks "daft as a brush". Now... he said "no offense", and I'm taking none, but I wondered... what exactly does "daft" mean to a British person? More specifically, "daft as a brush". I learned the other day that "blimey"...

Feeding Different Brands of Food Daily; Good Idea?
Posted to: Nutrition & Exercise
I'd like your opinions about this; a book I'm reading suggests feeding your dog 3 different foods daily because it will cause your dog's body to use "slightly different" digestive enzymes and "digestive activity", which gives these systems a better workout. Does this seem...

Eko's first show (with pictures)
Posted to: News & Entertainment
Sort of! We went to a fun match this morning. Eko won first place in the 3-6 month division. Competition was fierce - he was the only entry. He lost "best puppy" to the sole entry in the 6-9 month class. The show world is fierce, I tell ya. Look at that movement! He's a pro. A picnic followed...

How can I stop this (growling)
Posted to: Training & Behavior
Okay the last few days Aisha has started growling at everyone. I'm not sure why (trying to initiate play?) For example, about 10 minutes ago I walked out of my bedroom to grab my sons sippy, and she looked at me and started growling- just stood their growling, even as I walked away. I know puppies...
