Hi everyone. If you have any spare vibes or prayers we'd really appreciate is. We're back in the hospial. Willa had a check-up on Tuesday. We ended up being whisked away to the ER where she was poked and prodded and poked some more (including a spinal tap ). She lost too much weight, over 10% of her birth weight. She was down to 5 lbs. (5 lbs 10 oz at birth). Also, her temperature was really low. Part of that was because it was 20 degrees outside and we just came in from the parking lot. But because she's so small and doesn't have a lot of body fat, she can't regulate her temperature very well. The weaker she got, the less she wanted to feed. The less she fed, the weaker she got. I don't think she was cold at home, and she was still having wet and poopy diapers, so I really didn't know anything was wrong.
So they heated her up to a normal temp and admitted us to a room. All the tests have come back good so far, so no infection or illness is causing the problems. Since Tuesday we've been keeping her warm and feeding as much as I can. (Oh my poor nipples). She's been hooked up to all sorts of monitors and an IV (cables everywhere - makes it a pain to feed and change her). She's up to 5 lbs 5 oz now, and her temperature has been good. But since she's been hooked up, they've noticed that she has random spurts of sleep apnea (stops breathing for up to 15 seconds).
The doctor will be stopping back later today to let us know what he thinks we should do. I'm hoping they just send us home with a monitor, and that we don't have to stay a long time or get transfered out to a larger hospital.
Well I have to get going. I'm in the library at the hospital and I've got to get back up to the room. Hopefully I'll be able to check back in soon.
Thanks
Janice and Baby Willa
