A co-worker gave me a nice little package of colored dog sandwich cookies with white stripes drizzled on each. I'm hesitant to feed these to my dog.

From the AKC website: Ohio House Bill 568, introduced by Representative Tyrone Yates of Cincinnati, seeks to prohibit the ownership, keeping, or harboring of a dog that "belongs to a breed that is commonly known as a pit bull dog." Furthermore, if this bill is passed and adopted into law...

Summer Beef, Barley, and Squash Stroganoff
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
Barley is touted as a "cooling" grain in Eastern tradition. Historically, it replaced oats in the summer as the porridge staple in European diets, particularly in the UK. I've found it to be much better tolerated than oatmeal or potatoes in hot weather, so I switch to barley and rice when...

I was out the back today and turned on the pool filter and this enormous Huntsman spider was floating belly-up in the pool, waving its legs around trying to flip over. This thing was not the biggest I've seen, but at least the size of my palm with legs outstretched. There's a definite size threshold...

Rex Rabbits
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Anybody have experience with them? I recently got a female harlequin Rex rabbit, about a year old. The guy next to one of my clients had her out on his front lawn in a cage with a sign "FREE" so....of course....I have her with me now. But, I soon realized why she was free....sigh....she bites...

Sunday Paper Ads
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
So I am scrolling through the Sunday Paper and looking as always with fear in my heart that MY breed will be advertised. I was wondering how many of you felt the same? What is the most popular breed listed and what are the extremes in price asked with what qualifiers??? I do this in almost every town...

Frontline on puppy
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Can I put some of Shailer's frontline on Snow? I will not put the whole thing maybe just 1/2? I think he is older than 8 weeks so would it be safe? I just gave him a bath and he was covered with fleas. I don't have anything for puppies but I know Frontline is safe for them. Or should I wait for...

Here in San Diego, things from South Africa tend to thrive. Many of the plants and trees around here are South African in origin. We have a higher population of Rhodesian Ridgebacks than most parts of the country. Which may not be related to the climate, but I find it interesting. This past year, I've...

Weaves, baby!
Posted to:

We primarily worked on weaves especially for Scout since he has been in training since February. I am probably going to upgrade to some custom offset poles and a competition set. If he continues to have entry issues, I'll revert back to a 2 x 2 which I did with Chloe and she rarely misses her entries...

I took an early lunch break to put gas in my car (ouch) and let the dogs out. On my way back I had to stop b/c the firetrucks by my house were all going out. Hmmm. Then I get to work and they have our wall board tuned to the local channel. A helicopter crashed on the helipad of one of the hospitals downtown...

The significant other and I went "vet shopping" about a week ago and I got really turned off by the local vets for one big reason - the advertisements they had in their office with "we breed AKC pups for sale" and the majority of the breeders bred at least 3 different breeds of dogs...

This was emailed through our local dog egroup. I know the source and it is true: First, a message from my dad: Friday on our way out of town we stopped at our vets office to pick up some Frontline for the boys so we would have a safe weekend camping with them. Our vet informed us he was now using...
