Yikes!!

    Yikes!!

I took an early lunch break to put gas in my car (ouch) and let the dogs out.  On my way back I had to stop b/c the firetrucks by my house were all going out.  Hmmm.  Then I get to work and they have our wall board tuned to the local channel.  A helicopter crashed on the helipad of one of the hospitals downtown.  There was a big fire!  All the rescue people went down there.  Now they are evacuating the top SEVEN floors of the hospital b/c the fire has leaked fuel and the heat could compromise the structural integrity of the building.  Good thing we have the "Grand Rapids medical mile" and the people can be moved to other hospitals, but what a mess!  The peds and NICU are on those top floors, poor babies!  The two people in the helicopter survived (so far as we know).  My family doesn't use that hospital but I feel bad for those that do.

Wow, that is really frightening and I can't imagine the panic the patients and staff must be feeling, especially the ones on the peds and NICU floors. I hope they're all able to be transferred safely.

I just saw that on CNN. It appears the pilot and the passenger survived (good news) I hope all involved get through ok!

The headline caught my eye. I work at the UM Hospital, in the department who will be hosting the anniversary of the Survival Flight crew that died a year ago. That has been the topic of discussion in our office, and emails are going out university wide about the upcoming event. Then I see that.

Yikes is right! I hope everyone is safe.

I hope you don't mind if I add another Yikes story?

Apparantly on Wednesday two teenage girls from Lebanon, ME decided to skip school and sunbathe on train tracks. They were hit by the train and both had amputations. They must have fallen asleep and heard the train at the last minute. Can you imagine? They are both alive but in critical condition. They are very fortunate to still have their lives but I imagine they will be emotionally scarred for life.

I hope I didn't impose on your thread? Tongue Tied

I have to say, I'm always a little worried everytime I take a medivac to pick up an organ. It's really scary to land on those helipads. I'm suprised this doesn't happen more, it's really a credit to the fantastic pilots.
