Choosing A Dog

Choosing A Dog
What mix is this?
We've been looking at our local Animal Shelter. And completely fell in love with this little guy...Were seriously considering adopting him. They say he's a Chesepeake Bay Retriever/Lab mix...What do you guys think? See anything else in him?

Golden Retriever breeder help
A family member has decided to get a golden retriever. Despite my best attempts, they are convinced that a dog coming from a shelter is "damaged," and they want a purebred pup. I am going to try to help them buy from a breeder responsibly. Does anyone know of responsible golden breeders...

Questions- Health Testing
Me and Jeremy will be moving to a larger house with a yard this Spring. We're going to add a second dog to our family. I'd like to rescue/adopt again, either a Lab, GSD, or Golden...or mix of all three :) Jeremy would like a puppy from a breeder with all the health tests and paperwork and meeting...

Hounds
How well would a hound do in an apartment? With daily run's and TONS of training? I love hounds, Blueticks are probably my favorite. Close second is Redbone's and then Plott's(I looooove Plott hound markings). When I move out, and probably after the apartment stage, I want to get a...

Corgi or Sheltie
Do they stick their tongues out a lot? Kota is a mutt and I am always wondering what he is a mix of but he has this habit of always having his tongue sticking out just a little bit. The photo of Tootsie with her SS gift shows her tongue sticking out so I was wondering if it was a corgi thing, or if shelties...

Beagles who drool?
Hi everyone, hoping to get a response from some beagle breeders or people very familiar with them. I have two beagles, half siblings, and they're the first beagles I've owned. My fiance has had beagles all his life (about 13 of them total) and has never had one who drools. Our AKC registered...

Warning! Lol.
I'm just warning all of you now. I'm doing research on many different breeds since I'm seriously pursing Conformation. The final choice of a pup won't be for many years but I'd like to get started now so I can find a mentor. My trainer is going to help me out as much as she can but...

would like info on labradors
My sister-in-law is looking to get a yellow lab puppy in a few months. She has 2 children, one is age 3 and the other is 6. She asked me to research breeders for her, which I do plan to do. At the same time, I want to provide her with information on the breed because I'm not so sure she understands...

Thoughts on these two breeds: Basenji and Akita Inu?
Not long ago I posted here asking if anyone has had any experience (positive or negative) with Alaskan Malamutes. I got some great responses, so I thought I'd ask the same question about the Basenji and Akita Inu breeds. Basenjis seem nice because they are small with short hair, thus easier to groom...

Breeds That Aren't For You
so I'm curious to see, which breeds just don't click with you? Whether it be because of temperament, appearance, specific needs, etc. For me, there are many breeds I just wouldn't consider because they don't match my preferences. I just thought it'd be interesting to learn why...

Vizsla
This is the first breed on my list. Lol. I'm just in the starting stages of my research so I'm just doing some reading for now. From what I've read so far, this is a very adaptiable breed who can do pretty much what ever is asked of it. But what I want to know is how are they personality...

Guesses on Jack?
I finally got some better pics of Jack! Anyway, i was thinking he might be a coonhound mix. He looks sort of like a ridgeback too, but they're no as common as coonhounds around here. He is a very energetic boy, who like to have his mouth on everything. He is also extremely affectionate, and likes...

I need book recommendations (Rottie owners)
I know I want a Rottweiler in the future and I would like to start now in getting my self educated with the breed. I probably only know the basic (dog care) and I want to learn more. I know the internet is a good place but I want to check out books since I love to read them. Please if somebody could...

Goldendoodle
I realize the goldendoodle is not a breed, but rather a mix or "designer" breed. However, we are interested in the dog for what it was originally bred for-hunting. Has anyone had experience with the breed? We have narrowed down our search to either a German Wirehaired Pointer or a goldendoodle...

Low-allergen, kid-friendly breeds.
My best friend called me a few minutes ago, and said his sister wants a dog. Her 5 year old is pretty allergic to dogs, so some golden/poodle mix breeder has convinced her to buy one of them, because they're "100% hypoallergenic" (yeah right!), and "great with kids." I'm...

High drive dogs
I'm looking into a high drive dog. I'm still looking in to the German shepherd but my trainer has suggested that I research others as well. Which is understandable. And I'm curious as to what I'll find. I love learning about dogs I'd wouldn't normally consider. So any suggestions...
