Debunking "ecollar studies" - Janeen McMurtrie "See...
http://smartdogs.wordpress.com/2010/04/27/see-no-evil-read-no-evil-cite-no-evil/ - credit to Janeen MacMurtie for this!! Read it all - it's quite in depth and looks at 30+ studies or "open letters" like Karen Overall's. For every time I hear someone quote that ecollars make dogs...

Clothier - And One of the Best Blog Posts Ever...
We force a lot on dogs, and sometimes, just maybe, too much... Food for thought: http://flyingdogpress.com/content/view/141/52/ Suzanne, wherever you are, I have always enjoyed your seminars, and being on the same wave length more often than not about the relationships we have with dogs. I LOVE my herdy...

My dog won't drink water from a new dish
Help My 4 year old shitz won't drink water from a new dish (the old one was broken). I've tried plastic, metal, glass. He will only drink from the bubblers in the yard or puddles he finds on our walks. I have to leave him soon for some time and I'm worried he won't drink at the babysitters...

Sequoyah - More steps in "I haz to leave my brudder alone"
First, she learned not to approach his stall, then she learned not to enter his stall even if the door was open. Now, she's learning not to approach or enter the paddock... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di3cH2T6sHc&feature=player_embedded As you can see, the training commences with an already...

Help me develop a rehab plan...
Meet Izzy: She is my son's 2 year old ACD and my greatest failure as a dog owner to date. I pride myself on how well behaved my dogs are and am totally embarrassed that I've let her issues get so out of control...

Oh hai adolescence!
Ugh Simba is in that dreaded(at least for me) adolescence stage. I've never owned a dog that went through this, or well okay Toby but I was young and he was terrified. Simba on the other hand is a very confident dog, minus that fearful stage he's going through. So I have some questions, bet you're...

BuckleDown collar
Got a really cool collar for Kuniva today. By the company BuckleDown, made in the usa...I usually do not like snap buckle collars because Ive witnessed one snap and a dog get hit on the road but these are built like a carseat buckle. Seems very sturdy. It says "Born to raise hell" have you...

Sally's Reactive Dog Class....
Class #1--- We were given the opprotunity by the trainer we've been doing private lessons with to do a "Reactive Angels" dog class. There are three other dogs in the class-a doxie mix that is reactive with both dogs and people--she has actually bitten both a person and a dog and drawn blood...

Kenya update
Many of you know that since I've had Kenya (and before that) she has had some various issues with lack of confidence, generalized insecurity around certain types of people, and neurotic behaviors. Many things have improved over the past few years, but she also continues to pick up new neurotic behaviors...

Animal Emotion and Reasoning
I have personally seen the same behavior in foxes - protection of the fallen. But, when I saw this, I was convinced that we need to rethink our ideas about animal emotion, and their reasoning capacity. Lack of language does not imply lack of thought, and while the thought process may not be as sophisticated...

Will a Digging Dog Always Dig???
I am frustrated with Buddha, my 110 lb black lab mix. I found him tied to a newspaper dumpster in front of a church and being the good samaritan and dog lover that I am, stopped and picked him up. I immediately posted pictures of him up and down the street thinking that he had just gotten out and...

Why Do Dogs Like to Chase Moving Objects?
If you've ever wondered what the psychological mechanism for chasing tennis balls and Frisbees is, the underlying process may have something in common with the way human beings behave when we watch certain types of movies, play video games, or watch sporting events. "The Emotional Center of...

Corally Burmaster - Patience is a virtue:-)
Think your dog is stubborn? There's probably nothing as stubborn as a mule that doesn't want to (name the behavior), trust me. But, this woman has great patience and gets her mule in the wash stall. Great video on shaping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCtrtbdXkVw

RE: House Training Nani
I have a mixed breed 4 month rescued puppy.( Can anyone guess her breeds?) She is energetic, loves to run as fast as a greyhound, she is smart and friendly. Right now I am trying to house- potty train her. She was used to living outdoors (she was abandoned on a farm) but when I take her to the park ...

Why doesn't he stop?
It's been my experience that when you catch a puppy in the act, he stops peeing when you pick him up, you take him out, he finishes his business there. Well, Tyson just isn't doing this. I catch and grab him, but he's like a little faucet and just keeps going while he's suspended in mid...
