This is so incredibly sad. I agree with what the others have said...if this had been another breed the decision that he was vicious would probably have gone the other way.

I am so mad......for a while I was looking for more on this story..such as what happened to the dog....what did they decide.

Just tonight on the 11:00 news they just reported that they think the lady died because of her bad heart.......and the dog was already put down.

I went searching and ended up on a Rotty board.  They said there that the police decided it was a vicious dog and gave the family the choice to put him down or buy insurance  for vicious dogs which the family could not afford.   They also had to pay the kennel where the dog was taken  $600 for his keep while he was there.     I guess the report came out today that there were NO bite marks....and the death of accidental.

    Here is what was printed.

    Results of Investigation:*
    Manner of Death: Accidental
    Cause of Death: Cardiovascular disease
    Contributory Factors: Hypothermia
Subcutaneous, soft tissue injury (from claw marks)
Blunt force impact to head and extremities

I find this incredibly sad, and I have an even better understanding of what might have happened now that my little Fergie has passed away.  Sequoyah, realizing that Fergie wasn't waking up, began to poke, prod, and frantically try harder to get her to respond.  My guess is that this dog might have been trying the same thing... I broke it off, but if I hadn't been here, perhaps Sequoyah would have tried dragging, or nipping at the dog's body, too, to try to revive her.   Once having seen the distressed look on my poor little beanie dog's face, I will never forget the emotion in it.  The only saving grace here is that this dog is now with the owner he loved at the Bridge.

Your so right Anne and thanks for reminding me of it!

Because to read more about it in todays paper, it just makes me ill.   The dog was JUST put down in April.  This autopsy report came out begining of May.  Why keep it THAT long ( this happened in Feb ) only to put the dog down anyway with a final report?

It did say in the paper that the decision to put Zeus down was based on testimony from police officers and a neighbor, the dogs behavior report from the kennel, and an oral report from a pathologist listing "severe dog bites" as contributing to her death.  The police said the dog was deemed vicious based on the severity of her wounds and because the dog regurgitated part of the womans bra about a week after it was impounded.

Now...don't ask why the pathologist decided the dog bites were that severe, and the country coroner said that it looks like she went down to natural causes  then the dog was kind of tugging on her and some bleeding occured that by itself may not have been fatel."   The actual doctor that completed the autopsy was " not available for comment.."  Go figure!      Seriously...I wish they would contact the pathologist.

That just shows you that pathologists and police know nothing about dog behavior (or about a dog's biting damage in general). I always knew it was not the dog's fault.
