    RE: House Training Nani

I have a mixed breed 4 month rescued puppy.( Can anyone guess her breeds?)  She is energetic, loves to run as fast as a greyhound, she is smart and friendly.  Right now I am trying to house- potty train her.  She was used to living outdoors (she was abandoned on a farm)  but when I take her to the park  (at least twice a day) she won't do #1 or #2. She just wants to run and play.  But as soon as she gets indoor she will do her thing.  At first it was maddening, but now I am patiently trying to train her with doggy pads.

She is beggining to use them to pee but she poops anywhere.

Can anyone guess why she won't do pee or poop outdoors since she used to live out doors. She seems to like hard surfaces since she also uses my tiled outdoor back porch as bathroom.

I also own a 7 yr old Shi-Tzu female who tolerates the puppy and only poops and pee outdoors.

Do you take her out on a leash for potty time? That's where I would start.

I take her out on a leash, and she just starts  running and playing.   It's a long leash.  Maybe I have to wait longer??? She is just starting to get used to being an a leash since she was used to running free on a farm, she was abandoned,

I would get a "potty" leash. She only wears this when its business time. I would think 6 ft. would be good. You walk her around the yard  while saying "go potty" or whatever, until she goes, then praise. After shes done her business, then you can play.

I had the sane problem with my last rescue Fearless. She was born in the dump. It took me 3 months to convince her that my house was not a bathroom and yes she used to come in the house to go. Maybe the pads are not the best idea because you are still telling her it is ok to go in the house. I crate trained Fearless and she would keep the crate clean but during the day she would go in the house. After 3 months of catching her and taking her out side and telling her potty out side it finally sunk in. Believe me when I tell you I did not think it was going to happen. Maybe if you could take some of her pee and poop and put it out doors and take her to it when you know she should need to go. It might get through to her. I know it sounds gross just take a paper towel and soak up the pee and put in a plastic bag and place it somewhere you take them to go. Giving her her own scent out doors might help. It is how they tell you to make the transition out side with the pee pads.
