Dog-Dog Interactions--To Interfere or Not to Interfere?
Jack (for those of you that don't remember, as I haven't been on much), is a 4 year old male lab. A friend of mine runs a small rescue, and has a foster that is a female pit mix roughly a year old. She seems to be a bit rude--within seconds of sniffing Jack at their first meeting she was standing...

Dogs eating the cushions
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any advice concerning my 2 Border Terriers. They are getting 2 walks a day, they are fed well and very well looked after. we both work but one of us or the dog walker will see them at lunch time. Recently they have been ripping up the cushions and growling at night...

Excessive panting
Hi, I'm new here. Here's a quick history: I have a female German Shepherd, about 2 yrs old. I got Stormy a little over a year ago (a couple months shy of 1 yr old) from her breeder. Stormy's breeder had been unable to place her as a puppy, and then I believe she went through some tough times...

One dog suddenly bullying the other?!
Our alpha male, MacGyver just died 2 weeks ago. We have 2 other dogs, females; Pepper is 4 and Daisy is 2. Now Pepper is chasing Daisy off the bed, won't let her on the couch, and steals her food and treats when we aren't looking. Daisy is afraid of her, and hides in the other room unless we...

Your Dog’s the Perfect Workout
It’s hard enough for me to find the time and motivation to hit the gym on a daily basis let alone ensure that my dog Peanut gets a good, brisk walk every day. Finding that extra hour to walk my dog is a challenge and, at times, an inconvenience. Every now and then I will neglect Peanut and just...

Calling all dog-walkers and trainers! This is long - sorry
Hi everyone, I am in need of some guidance and some suggestions and things to seriously consider. Here is the situation in a big nutshell. I took over a dog-walking business from a friend of mine. There is a core of 8 dogs (5 males, 3 females and all are fixed except the male poodle but a very submissive...

Need advice - Casey's become a barker (Erica1989)
Ok. I need some advice... I'm really not sure what to do with him. Some back story - I've had Casey about 4 years now. He'll be 5 in April-ish. He's a shelter rescue, had some BAD fear aggression issues when I got him - but he's come around nicely. Starting November-ish, we moved...

How to stop barking when alone
Hi, I adopted a dog abouth 3 weeks ago and have never heard a peep out of him. Never heard a bark, growl, anything and it just came to my attention from a note from the neighbors that he barks when he is alone the entire time. Now he is only alone for one or two hours at a time during the day, but of...

Dog "Psychology"
Sort of..... Belle is a thinking dog. No this is not a bad behavior on ANY plane, but sometimes it would be better if she just 'does'. For instance agility. She is very methodical, velcro, never puts a foot wrong, enjoys herself but never cuts loose. About a year ago, we realized if I ran "with"...

Teaching a new class need advice/suggestions (Update!)
My life has been busy working in a shelter but I love all the dogs I care for. I have been helping with obedience classes which, along with my work, has caused my understanding in dog behavior, training and anatomy to exploded with so much knowledge. I have even been in training with a few professional...

Sheep
We've gone round and round about how smart dogs are or aren't. Interesting article about the fact that we may not have known as much as we thought about sheep either: http://www.care2.com/greenliving/sheep-much-more-intelligent-than-assumed.html

Sagan’s Baloney Detection Kit on NDT philosophy
So I posted in NTD website under my other handle 'Subaru' (I have astronomical themed handles) and actually read though all of the articles and comments posted. I had also just finished a second reading of Sagan's 'Candle in the dark" and the book was fresh in my mind as I read though...

Interesting behavior at animal shelter...
Just over two weeks ago DH and I went to Miami to get our baby Royce (who is doing GREAT!) and I noticed something quite interesting. This shelter was crowded... Four or five dogs to a run. Dog breeds known to be same sex aggressive etc. In just fine with others. One run had a bull terrier, two female...
