This is great in understanding how the predatory fear response happens, is it also groundwork for medication to mediate fear response in, say, a dog, until re-conditioning can happen to reduce a fear response to a stimulation?

That is, this may be the chain that happens when a dog fears another but does not explain why the dog feared the other. However, by working in reverse and blocking medically the chain, one has time to re-condition the dog to the fear-producing stimulus.

 With humans cognitive behavioral treatment is often aided by pharmacological support. I'm not familiar with the research in dogs but I would imagine that a similar approach is being used by behaviorists/vets.

 Some Sharpeis suffer from hereditary idiopathic periodic fevers. This study suggests a link between the mutation for it's wrinkly skin and PFS. From my reading of this study, it seems that breeders caused this problem by breeding for SharPeis that kept their wrinkles into adulthood (they used to lose them) and unknowingly breeding for this high copy number mutation.
