    Trying To Bury food

Another bizarre thing Vader does is try to bury his food..lol...neither of our other 2 dogs did this....its funny....he will eat and when he is done he pushes the air over his dog dish...LOL...sometimes he tips it over...is there a way to stop this or should i just let it be....its a pain constantly having to pick dog food up..lol... he was dumped as a puppy to starve in a field...so maybe that has something to do with it, i know when we brought him home the first night he ate like it was his last meal..he was sooo hungry!

I wouldn't worry about this too much.  My dog Gabby was found by me as a young puppy and she was in very poor condition.  She has some  strange/funny eating rituals and I don't know if they are because she was surviving/foraging on her own or just her own quirky behavior.  :)

We had a terrier that we got as an older lady :)  She would do this same nose in the air kind of thing since we had her and continued to do it even when she lost her hearing and eyesight.   She never had to fight for food or snacks at home and in fact was at that time the only totally indoor dog.  We had a Rottie that preferred to be outside and to him she was the Queen of the house :) still she would fake bury her treats, toys and food.

Charlie doesn't bury his food (he eats it too fast), but he does bury bully sticks in the house.  The only issue we ever had was when he rubbed the top of his nose raw trying to cover it up with the carpet.  After that we had to watch because it would bleed and make a total mess.  We got him as a young pup and there was never a food issue at our house or the house before him

His nose eventually heeled.  I wouldn't worry about.

LOL, Willow was and still is a big food burier.  At first, I think since she wasn't well fed she was trying to save it or hide it for later.  She'd take pieces and carry it over to the throw rugs and spit it out and try to roll the rug over it.  Or, she'd bury it in her bed.  She also will try to nose her dish over to make this easier for herself.  More recently, if she isn't happy with her meal she will try to nose the bowl under my bookcase.  She also buries cookies in my between my car seats.  Yup, thats her.  I think its a natural instinct for dogs to bury their food.  He will probably grow out of it.  For the most part, Willow did.  And, while I still find it amusing, I tell her to knock it off when I hear her teeth clanging against the side of the bowl nudging it.

Normal canine behavior.  I'd just put a bigger mat under the dish.  Big Smile
