Counter-surfing/behavior rehearsal lessons?
Does anyone have a solid protocal for teaching a dog to not counter-surf? I know that it would be best to not have food on the counter, but life isn't working out that way! I work nights and am not home, my husband has dinner with the kids and then goes right upstairs for getting everyone ready...

Dog Fence
I'm a pet owner and pet trainer, I'm currently using electric Dog Fence in training my dog. It's really an economical substitute for putting up a high priced traditional fence. This helps me protect my dog and also keep it off on my treasured property. *link removed by mod*

Deterring dogs from fouling outside your house
Sorry if this is the wrong area. I am desperate to know how I can deter dogs from fouling outside my house. I have tried jeys fluid and bleech but nothing is working. Before I am pounced upon, i am not anti-dog but anti-dog owner who lets their dog leave a disgusting mess without clearing it up. As usual...

Food Aggression
So Piper is a food aggressive dog. I've known this since I got her, but it has never been a problem because Jetta doesn't ever mess with other dogs' food. Plus, Jetta still lives with my parents so Piper is usually alone. But the puppy that I recently took in now lives at our apartment, and...

"Play" oriented barking in public
I have a young dog, she's 16 months old, and we have trained and socialized her as much as possible so far (3 levels of obedience and working toward CGC). She LOVES kids naturally and when my two nieces come over she plays and plays with them and makes them giggle giving kisses. Her problem is...

Can you "roll the tongue"?
I'd love to learn how to "roll the tongue" like Jean Donaldson does. I have her "Perfect Paws in 5 Days" DVD and she does this amazing sound with her voice. It's got to be a variation of the Spanish rolling the tongue. Her variation sounds like a "purrr." I've...

Depressed Dog??
Hi there, So I just got my first dog and shes a husky/shepherd mix. I adopted her from the local animal shelter, and I picked her because she was the most well-behaved dog there (no barking, jumping etc). In fact, she was lying down as we walked by to look at the dogs. I've had her for a month...

Grieving
Not sure where to put this...so mods feel free to put it somewhere else. Have you had experience with grieving pets? I don't mean your grief. I mean your pets mourning over a recently deceased packmate. I always figured that when Buddy died, that Heidi would be affected in some way. She ADORED him...

Strangest dog behavior...My dog must walk on the right or else!
So when walking Leo, he MUST be on the right. not only that, but when someone crossed his path,or he is not on right, he stops DEAD in his tracks, and circles around in front of you, counterclockwise and then behind u, back to his esteemed position on the right, (basically a counter-clock-wise circle...

Westhighland terrier refuses to come in.
We have a delightful West Highland terrier who has been a gentlemen and well mannered for the last 11 years. All that time he has used his dog door to get in and out with no problem. Something happened recently in his mind and now he uses it to exit with no problem but now will not re enter unless...

Baily is pooping in the basement
This started about a week ago. I woke up one morning with the vague notion that he had tried to wake me up during the night. I go downstairs for something and notice an odor. Over the next several days he poops down there3-4 times. I also urinated once. The basement is all carpet. This has got to stop...

Old Dog *has* learned new tricks
I seem to have trained/enabled myself into a corner. I have two dogs, one is a female lab mix going on 14 and the other a male lab/shepard who is 8/12. Both are in good health, but the female is clearly starting to slow down. She very much considers herself alpha over her brother but the two get along...

Why do they zoom after baths?
Okay I am sitting here laughing because Royce is doing his very best impression of Secretariat around the living room. The reason? A bath of course. All of my dogs have always done bath zoomies.... WHY? LoL, it seems strange they have an instinct to party after a bath.

dog rivalry
I have two neutered male dogs, one an 18-month-old dachshund mix, Cooper, and the other a 12-month-old lab mix, Coal. Both are sweet, nonaggressive dogs who take orders from humans very well. Neither has a dominant personality, and Cooper could even be described as timid or meek in temperament. Most...

Having a conversation?
So, Chief and Finn do this all the time. I don't know what it's about. Is it just playing or what? Be careful with your volume, they get LOUD! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QRNpM0ACqs

Aggressive Pit Bull lives in our neighborhood
Looking for any thoughts on this situation. I live in a small association of detached cluster homes... about 25. Its a big circle of homes. Last year a new young couple bought one of the homes, and in the fall they picked up a pit bull from their friends who had to get rid of him. They said he is as...
