Deterring dogs from fouling outside your house

Sadly like with all animals that are kept, you should only be allowed to keep an animal if you have done some sort of training/exam for their care and responsibilty, sadly we don't live in a world where animals have enough laws on their side.

You have the laws.  The laws are being broken.  Call the police, complain to your councilman.  Often.  Take photos and file complaints.  Send the dog owners cleanup kits and copies of photos. Be a pest .  Keep pushing the complaints until the council and police take action just to get rid of you.  Involve your neighbors.  Dogs and people are creatures of habit, and you have to change the owners habits to get the dogs to change.  The idea of providing bags and a can is actually pretty good.  Maybe you can get the council to provide the supplies.  You are the one with the problem.  You may have to be the one who provides the solution.

I do have a problem with the concept of more and more laws to limit the behavior of others, if the current laws aren't working.  Eventually every activity is regulated by a law, and the idea of free will becomes a myth.[

I think having a high pitched "deterrant" sound is extremely rude for the dogs-those things hurt their ears. Its not the dogs fault for the owner being ignorant.

The owners are the problem.  Use a horn that startles the owner.  If the owner gets abusive, call the police.

For what it's worth, I do understand the problem.  I live next to a highway, and watched a woman stop her car and walk her dog on a leash in my yard.  There are 7 dogs in the houses touching on my property, and most are large hunting dogs fed on high corn content foods.

    So its alright for
them to poop in a park where children play? Can I just add that dog poop is not like rabbit
poop, it leaves debris, even when most of it is picked up, dog poop does not come in a dry package! its like human poop. As many dogs owners do not pick the poop up and its only the minority that do, they shouldn't be allowed to just let their dogs poop anywhere.

this may be a difference again between the States and the UK (my husband is British, so I'm more than just passing aware of differences) -- here in the States it's becoming increasingly common in urban areas for dogs *not* to be allowed in parks where children play.  Some yes, some no -- but I'm guessing it's becoming more the "done thing" here TO pick up.  It's taken manyyears for that to even begin to be the case (and sadly, a LOT of people just don't get it or are too lazy to pkc up).  It's not nearly perfect, but  it may be easier to get neighborhoods to bond together.  (And frankly, many Americans aren't nearly as sensitive to someone's Privacy" and will boldly state their opinion loudly to "PICK UP" -- embarassment is often an effective "training tool" for humans to use against lazy humans.  But you're accurate -- it may provoke temper instead, so caution would be needed.)

In honesty -- if the dog is healthy their *** **should be** a dry package for the most part.  But you honestly may want to try to get your town counsel to be a bit more proactive -- loose stool can often be an indicator of canine health -- things like parvo & distemper in particular typically have loose stool as a symptom.  It's not easy but it's one of those things where if someone doesn't begin the complaint it will never be addressed.

But I must support those that have said a noise deterrent that only the dog can hear is more than a little cruel and frankly it won't have any effect on the owner's avoiding your property.  If anything it's likely to get the owners walking back and forth in an effort to get the dog to "finish" and it may increase, rather than diminish traffic near your home.

However, something shrill and disturbing may embarass the owners (and likely also your neighbors) .  Truly a more direct approach (or even sinage that say's you're being recorded) likely will be more effective.

How about those little flags that landscapers use that say the area has been treated with chemicals?

I don't know where these owners live as most of them go out when its late and dark, for obvious reasons, so they won't be spotted. I do not have the time to camp out in my garden 24/7 to watch out for the culprits as I have a life to lead.

As for giving out too many laws would spoil peoples free will, I certainly don't agree, there are not enough laws to protect animals. I know of a neighbour who was banned from keeping animals for 10 years because of neglect and abuse, however his wife could keep all the animals even though they belonged to him but how can you prove that, how is that justice for the animals?  They should have banned the property to not just the animal abuser so no, there aren't enough laws to protect animals.

I was thinking last night and would be glad of any information. My next door neighbour has a large dog who stays out in the front garden for hours. She is not aggressive but barks at other dogs passing by. Actually a couple of times I've been grateful to her as she has alerted me to a dog passing by with its owner so was able to watch them.

My question is, would a dog foal to mark a territory because it didn't like the dog barking at them? I don't know where my neighbours dog poops but obviously to another dog, there would be dog smells just by the dog being in the garden. I just need to know the causes and why its always outside my house by several different dogs, different poop sizes are a giveaway.

Would a yard light on a motion sensor be practical?

We will have to agree to disagree on this. I believe politicians can be a blight on the land, respond to the loudest or richest group, and have a strong chance of really screwing up every situation they attempt to fix.

    Good luck
