It's a Curl Up and Read Weekend!

Just got a copy of Brenda Aloff's book "Get Connected With Your Dog" and a couple of others, and still waiting on Bob Bailey's book which I was able to get for $79.95 on Karen Pryor's site, which should be here any day.  Good thing it's raining here...

Then, there's Sylvia Trkman's Tricks video and the vid that came with the Aloff book.  I may not take my jammies off till Tuesday:-)))

LOL, just saw this one, did you enjoy your weekend?

I've spent the last month building this port for the dog's mobile doghouse.  I mostly only read what is online anymore as my low vision has gradually made it hard to read print even with high magnification glasses.

The dogs show up on many of the pics, like this one.

They spent much more time outdoors than usual supervising me.

The design was intended to amplify the limited existing architectural features of the house.

Burl, have you considered an e reader such as the Kindle? You can increase the font size dramatically.  Patricia McConnell's books are now avalable on Kindle.

Nice dog mobile set up. :)

I have not seen one yet.  Blowing up the font size on a 10 in. tablet screen might only allow a sentence at a time to display. I use size 36 in MS Word on a 19" monitor.

The Library of Congress runs a program of recorded books for the blind which I have participated in for 20 years or so.  They have a few good dog books including McConnell, Milan, and even Kerasote's Merle.  Note to the uninitiated: recorded books induce sleep!

My friend has gone to Brenda with several dogs and some of her photos are in the new book.

I have three of her books - Get Connected, Aggression in Dogs, and the Body Language book.  All are fascinating reads - I don't necessarily use everything in them, but she is extremely knowledgeable and I would recommend her books to just about anyone.

I spoke with her at length this past spring when I had a very difficult client and was struggling with the right thing to do, as there were a LOT of underlying emotional problems with the dog, and frustrations were high.  I wrote to her on a whim, not even knowing what to expect, not knowing if she'd answer as I'm sure a TON of people do the very same thing (including people writing about their own dogs), and amazingly she responded personally and we had the most fabulous talk and she was so willing to listen and offer advice.  Turns out I was on the right track the whole time - and about seven months later the dog and owner are doing well and have completed two full training classes. I will always remember that conversation, and the confidence she gave ME to know I was doing all the right things, even if they were not "traditional" training techniques.
