Question about anal glands...
Just saw a post about anal glands and remembered a question I had about groomers. I use to take Bug in to be shaved for the summer and nearly every groomer I went too always wants to do her anal glands, I always decline but onetime a groomer asked why not and said that all dogs should have it done and...

Oiling Clippers
Just wondering how often during a clip one should oil the clippers. I ask because I find my clippers heat up rather fast and I'm not sure if this is due to not enough oil or what. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks

Need Advise Please
I'm looking for some advise for a Golden Retriever my sister has. He's a 10 year old male and recently they found a tumor on his upper left jaw ....near the gums maybe??? Anyhow, they were going to do a biopsy thismorning to see what they are dealing with and didn't quite get that far. They...

AIHA or IMHA
WELCOME to the AIHA or IMHA thread. Because this thread has been around so long, but it also tends to be something people "search" for, we're endeavoring to help make it more useful with an index. Hope this works -- In order to be able to EDIT the Index, we've actually started a...

Glocosamine dosage? UPDATE
My friends asked me to post about her standard poodle, Cali. She is about 8yrs (I think) weighs about 60lbs. Cali has been noticeably inactive and subdued for the last 5 days. My friends thinks she may be feeling some discomfort in her joints and is considering giving her some Glococamine and another...

Need your best tips . . . . Deb W.
So during the last three weeks, Jamison has been to the Vet three times. First, he was doing the head shaking thing so naturally I figured he has an ear infection. Vet says no infection yet just a tad bit red. She puts him on antibotics (pill #1) as a precautionary measure. Next he gets this scaley looking...

Another UTI?? (UPDATE)
OK, so I'm gonna lose it here. Last month Finn started peeing everywhere even in the house where he never does it. So, I took him in to the vet and had it dealt with. We were put on Clavamox...which took almost 3 weeks to get through because he wasn't doing well on it. Oh, and FYI he has people...

Compounding Pharmacy help (meg)
I am going to strangle Dr.'s Foster and/or Smith. And then beat them with a wet noodle. Pirate is running low on his potassium bromide. There is not a compounding pharmacy in my COUNTY that makes it. Seriously, I've looked. So, after we moved two years ago, I've always ordered it from...

Very newby grooming question
I grew up with Australian Cattle Dogs. They are wash and wear - usually blow coats twice a year (except in the house as I've learned) but just brush when shedding and bathe occasionally. I just acquired a adult BorderJackJack (3/4 Jack Russell, 1/4 Border Collie). He basically looks like a border...

I am a bad mom
I think Luger has a UTI. That is why I think he has been snapping at me all of a sudden when I pick him up. He was doing so well with potty training. Yesterday he just starts peeing in the house and when he is done it still drips out. I'll catch him peeing and I'll say "not here" pick...

Harry was hit by a car (He's OK!!!)
I'm not really up to rehashing the details, but we were out with the dogs today, and Harry got away from us. He took off across a 4-lane road, with BF hot on his heels. Before BF could get to him, a car found him first. The car had slammed on the brakes, and did hit him (a very kind lady who had...

I'm devastated
I know I haven't posted much, but I know there are a bunch of smart dog owners here and I need some help. When I adopted Rickards at the end of July 2009 he was in bad shape, matted, long nails, yeast infection both ears and had a collar that was at least two sizes too small. I was told by the...

Shes molting!
Literally. Tootsie was walking today, in the living room and a clump of hair fell out of her "pantaloons". Actually, her entire back end is a series of clumps. So I think this weekend we'll be making a trip to the groomers.

Lab-9 years old house-trained and now peeing in house.
For a couple of months my lab has been peeing in the house. She is 9 years old. We have never had a problem since she was house-trained all those years ago. Last summer we were having problems where she would be laying down and when she got up there would be a wet spot where she had peed or 'leaked'...

Honey's Physical
You can call me paranoid or whatever, but I for years I have taken my dogs in once a year (twice a year when they got old) for a physical which included heart worm test and complete blood panel, total going over and every couple of years a chest x-ray. Honey was "right at a year old" when...

Portion Pacers
Has anyone used one of there? What are your thoughts? I've read that ensuring your pup eats slowly can help prevent bloat which is a major concern for Danes. Do these work as well as they're advertised?

BeBop USA car harness
We love the BeBop USA car harness that I bought after reading posts here. It lets my small dog (18 pounds) look out the window and he can easily lay down and sleep in the back (something he never did when he was riding in the front seat/on my lap). According to the BeBop site, the setup was designed...
