Alternative to the Halti-collar?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I have a Golden Retriever/Saluki mix named Nikki who loves when I take her on bike rides down the street. I'm always very careful about my surroundings and pay attention to other people we pass and cars and the like, so it's pretty safe, not to mention we ride on roads where there aren't...

Well, we finally got our second batch of business cards done and are going to be looking around for places to leave some card holders. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out http://www.balancepet.com (it's a little rough as we're still adding products in). Unless you live...

Seeking opinions about gentle leader/head halter
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I was just reading a post about a halti-collar while riding a dog attached to a bicycle. It made me think about our use of the gentle leader with our 80 lb. german shepherd mix (I believe the gentle leader is very similar to the halti, and I'm talking leash walking here - not attached to the bike...

Two Wolves

Two Wolves One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment...

"Leave It" "Come" Thank Goodness!!!
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
So, yesterday morning I was out with Sequoyah playing frisbee in the rain. On one particular throw, she caught the thing as usual, but stopped in her tracks and looked down back toward my paddock. I thought she was looking to see if Miles was out there. I said "He's not there - leave it -come"...

Allergy testing - costs, best type?
Posted to:
Health & Grooming
For those of you who've done allergy testing on your dogs, can you give a rough cost for the test and which test is best? My derm vet said that both the blood and skin test are about equally reliable and comparable in cost. I'm ready to make the plunge. Poor Sassy just seem miserable and I'm...

Homemade chew treats?
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
Does anyone have any recipes or know of anywhere that would, for dog treats that take a long time to chew and are relatively easy to make? We have a 15 month old who has to be sedentary due to heartworm treatment, and I'd like to make some treats that will take a long time for him to go through....

Molly likes the babies
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
and to start I'm very cautious. First I let Molly meet my new fosters with the baby gate between them. I'd hold the kittens up and Molly would nudge them and whine. Next step was to let Molly into the foster room with me holding her collar so she could see the babies up close. She'd nudge...

Candace suggested this and I thought it was a good idea. Instead of answering her questions about siberians in a Rainbow Bridge thread, we could discuss it here. In far northeast Siberia near the bering Strait, lives an aboriginal people, that still live there today, though only has an historical...
