Sally down--down--doown--DOWN!
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
OK--I know you are not supposed to repeat commands, but what DO you do when the dog doesn't listen the first time? Sally generally obeys the first time, but is she is distracted it might take me a couple of "downs" to get her to actually lay down. If she's distracted and I ask her...

How I wish I'd taken a picture!
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
I was in the kitchen making dog food earlier and the dogs were in and out as usual. Happened to glance out the kitchen window and Thunder was standing there with a CAT FOOD bag stuck on his head! It was hysterical! So out I go and the second he heard me he tried to get to me, but the poor guy kept walking...

The Crate....the stupid crate...
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
Hey everyone. My roommate and I have had our border collie / rottie mix Makenzie for about 8 weeks now (she's 14 weeks old). For the first 3 weeks, since we didn't have a crate, we decided to just confine her to the kitchen at night, and when we absolutely had to leave her alone (we're...

New to harnesses - how tight?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I just bought my dogs a harness a few weeks ago and have been using it on all their walks now, but I'm not sure how tightly it should fit to their bodies. Does it go by the same rule as the collar - that you should be able to fit 2 fingers between the dog and the harness? Or should it be looser than...

Yeast Infection from Antibiotics
Posted to:
Health & Grooming
My puppy, Gracie, is being treated with antibiotics for a bladder infection. I've read a lot about this in dogs and it sounds like they can get yeast infections from antibiotics just like people. I'm wondering what are the symptoms so I'll know what to look for if that happens to her. Thanks...

I need desperately need some help to solve my Yorkie's peeing and pooping problem. Cody is 6 six years old and has always been very stubborn about where he wants to go to the washroom. For the past three days I have taken Marley for a walk, and for the past three days we have been terrorized by an off-leash dog! The first day it happened this little terrior was actually biting Marley. Marley growled at him a little, but bless his heart, stayed right near me. Yesterday, this...

Extreme Seperation Anxiety

I have had Sphinx, a one year old Pit Bull-mix, since December '05... I got him as a stray and am pretty certain that he was abused before I rescued him (or should I say, we rescued each other) because he was extremely nervous around men and would cower whenever anyone made any sudden movements....
