Arrrgh, I hate living in the country

Meet our most recent stray: This poor dog is in rough shape. He appears to be older, although I have no idea HOW old. He has callouses on his elbows, some sort of growth on his left hind leg (which I have circled in the photos), and he is literally *covered* in ticks. You can see the one...

Hi everyone. I have an 9 month old 120 pound, 33 inch tall at the withers, Great Pyrenees named Judge. I apologize ahead of time for this will be a rather long post due to my having to give background info....... I brought him home from the breeder's at 6 weeks old. He was a happy, sweet, cat...

Head tremors?
Posted to:
Health & Grooming
Ok, so Rafe did this weird thing today, and I've looked up the "boxer head tremors" and watched videos, but it's not really the same thing... His head wasn't shaking, but it was more like the muscles in his head were contracting. I've seen him do this once, but I think that...

Frustration

Maxine as many of you know is thunder phobic. With all the storms we have had this year it is starting to wear me down. The only thing that "calms" her is a tranquilizer which I don't like to use too much. I try to save that for night time (so we can sleep) and if there is a severe threat...

RIP Tony Snow
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Unfortunately today Tony Snow lost his battle with colon cancer at the age of 53. Regardless what your political leanings were, it's undeniable that Tony was a bright young man with a brilliant future. He was a class act who tried to prove that politics doesn't have to be ugly and catty. If you...

Pitbull tried to eat Eko this morning
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
At the dog park. Thankfully I've been prepared for the day an aggressive dog set its sights on Eko, but I'm still full of adrenaline and anger. A man came in with 3 dogs - black pitbull, white boxer, and something small like a pom. I've never seen the guy or the dogs. The pitbull marches...

Deaf Dogs
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
This is probably a matter of opinion, but is it generally believed that all deaf dogs are the product of poor breeding????? I personally do not think so. There is a woman at the shelter where I volunteer who has a blog with a local newspaper and she posted a blog about a white, deaf American Bulldog...

Bailey got out of heat about 3 weeks ago (maybe a little under that)... I know FOR A FACT she cannot be pregnant. She was always on a leash the entire time she was in heat and outside.... Never around a male dog. Never. So i know that is not a possibility. But anyways, this was her first heat and her...

Figs??

DH & I have recently bought some new property. It has fig trees planted around the house. Tonight, while Bevo, Shooter & I were working in the yard, I ate a few of the figs. I went back to picking up limbs. When I turned around, the boys were helping themselves to figs off the tree. I stopped...

Rant...

Why do people think it's OK to put "Service Dog" tags on dogs that are NOT Service Dogs, just so they can get a leg up on socialization or just want to take their dog with them? A lot of people do dumb things when it comes to training and socialization, but for me this one takes the cake...
