Tony Tales
Tony is recovered from his neuter and doing fine. He pulls a LOT on the leash, I need to start working on that. I'd like to try training first before I spend money on an easy-walk harness. Tony is an alpha, so he and Willy are not doing so well together. If Willy is in my lap, on a chair, the sofa...

Living with a submissive, anxious dog
I am the owner of two sighthounds. One, Rose, I have had from a puppy. She is unflappable. I socialized her obsessively when she was a puppy and now she's obedient and has a very solid, if somewhat aloof, temperament. Nothing rattles her. My second sighthound, Janey, I have had for about 2 months...

My dog is only misbehaves towards me
I need help! My pug mix, Pinny, is just like a child. She's so sweet and loving to me while others are around, but if it's just her and I, it's like she's a completely different dog. She gets snappy and feisty almost as if she demanding my attention (which she gets plenty of). she doesn't...

To treat or not treat?
Do you feel its good to train using treats? or is it better to have your dog work for praise? As a trainer treats are nice at the end but its important to me that my dogs listen without having a treat in my hand. I find they loose focus and get too distracted.

Keeping dog in the backyard
our small dog keeps getting out of the yard. We keep fencing any small holes she gets out of, but she is making more. We know the reason she is getting out is to explore. We are out of ideas to keep her in the Yard. We have another dog that has no problem staying in the yard. We have lots of toys and...

Terrier Training... Need Help
Hello, My name is Joe. About a month and a half ago I rescued a jack Russell terrier from the shelter. I was aware of the high energy that comes with the territory and being a Fitness trainer, and living in a secluded equestrian community with plenty of outdoors, I was up for the challenge. Dixie...

PROTECTOR WRONG PERSON
From my reading 9 - 15 months is the time that a puppy will stand its ground, become terriotial and protective of its home and owners. Well, Freida at 10 months she is showing signs of this. The problem is, in the morning when I get up and I am up with the dogs for an hour or so, if my DH gets up,...

dog backpacks
I just bought my dog a backpack so he can carry water and snacks while we are hiking. He is over 60 lbs with a stocky build, and walks and runs longer distances than I do. I figured I could put him to work and have him carry the supplies while on long walks and hikes. So far, he has been fine having...

Random aggression on leash towards other dogs
[size=2]Our dog is almost 2, (husky/shepard mix, neutered, rescued at 9 mos.) has been to obedience class (won first prize), and a few months ago began acting aggressively towards some dogs he doesn't "know" when on his leash. He starts out wagging his tail, and the usual sniffing, but...

Domminant Behavior
When does this behavior stop? I am assuming it is a stage, right? She is 7 months now, and still blocks Abby our 5 yr mix (Abby is small enough to stand under Freida pretty much), but I will find Freida standing over her. I usually call her to come to me, just to get her away from Abby. Abby, does nothing...

Learning to read dog body language
Victoria Stillwell posted this on fb today and I thought it was one of the best articles I've read in a while about dog body language. It covers the entire gambit including the subtle. It's those subtle communications that we often miss and that gets us and our dogs into trouble http://www.tailsfromthelab...

Dog bite
In our local newspaper today was a blog about a dog bite in our city. A lady was walking her 3 dogs on a leash and a jogger ran up behind her and one of her dogs jumped on the jogger and bit him. Didn't say too much more than that...it was a police blotter. My first instinct was to get mad at...

Sudden food aggression
I have four dogs - two seniors, a one year old and a three month old pup, who we have had for about a month. All the dogs have been getting along very well, with the two older ones basically ignoring the crazy younger ones. About two weeks ago I purchased a bag of food and left it in the kitchen. Every...

Handling around the face, ears, and feet.
Houston is doing really well with being handled around his ears. He is doing just okay with having his feet handled. The trainer said to practice massaging and checking his legs and inbetween his paws. He sometimes lets me but sometimes will lick my hand or start mouthing. I give him treats when he allows...

Seperation Anxiety
Does anyone know how to correct seperation anxiety in a dog? I would like to nip it in the butt now. This is what happens, I can be gone to work during the day and everything is fine with our 5 month old in her kennel. I get home and things are still good, give her a bone break, take her for a walk,...

We got a new fur-kid in the house! (need some suggestions!)
Meet Houston!! He is about 10 months old and was an owner surrender. He spent the first chunk of his life as an outdoor dog because the owner was apparently allergic. He has been really fun and happy thus far. The TV puzzled him as did the water bowl. It made the *glug glug* sound and he freaked out...

Well a little background gunner is 8 months old and is a english pointer. I have had two boxers before but for some reason this guy is a totally different ball game. I got him from a older couple who just kept him out in the yard with no formal training. We have only been together for a month now. I...
