Maxy Truly Loved It
Chilling Wind. No clouds. Maxy and I were excited for a training session today, Tuesday, 28th Jan. After the basic obedience training classes, we haven’t attended any sessions yet. Jas from Cali K9 San Francisco asked us to participate in the advanced training session, organized in a bare plowed...

The Training/Behavior "Chatter" Thread
I think this might be very interesting and educational... Or else it might die immediately. In any case... Benedict If you want a "training/behaviour chatter" thread a la the "mindless chatter" NDR threads, which can just travel from subject to subject, feel free to have at it....

Why is my neutered dog suddenly humping his pillow, and should I stop...
I've had my dog Jasper for six months and haven't seen any humping behavior until the past couple days. He's around 6-7 years old and the shelter neutered him when I got him. Anyway he started doing it with his doggy bed pillow, I haven't seen him do it with anything else. He bites it...

Teaching an old dog new tricks
Does anyone have any tips for teaching an old dog new tricks? Admittedly, when our dog was a puppy, I was super hyper with her. And now (she's three years old), while she's very friendly, she's a little "too" friendly with strangers and jumps on them when she meets them. Anybody...

Litter box training an adult?
I'll admit, when I first heard about litter box training dogs, I thought it was a little ridiculous. But I have come to realize that this may be a useful "backup" for my dog. I have a 5 year old neutered male Papillon. He's very intelligent and learns new things very quickly. Does anyone...

What does Ruby's "nose-punching" mean? (tacran)
First, let me clarify what I mean by "nose punching" so you don't get the wrong idea!! Sometimes when Ruby is really enjoying a toy (especially a soft, fuzzy one, which we rarely give her unless she's 100% supervised, because she shreds them in 2 seconds), she will stop chewing or...

Challenging Christmas visitor...
Ok I have a 5 year old visiting for Christmas and I have a 9 almost 10 wk mini schnauzer puppy. Mind you we have had him ( the puppy is named Kona) for only 6 days. In that time he has learned how to sit for meals, goes potty out on the balcony, naps in his play pen/ crate, and sleeps at night in his...

Little Girl becoming Dominant
I have adopted a Labrador/ Pitbull mix and have had her now for five months. Training is going well, but lately she has been more dominant and aggressive than before. We live with several other older female dogs and a young family with a four year old. She is starting to snap more at the older dogs and...

Sadie is peeing on my couch!
Sadie has peed on 2 different couches in the past few days. She had done this once before back in August, but with 2 different couches, its not a matter of left over scent. Any ideas why my couch? I have 2 theories. 1, is that she has a uti and is choosing the couch because it is soft. (Hard ceramic...

Submissive Urinating-- HOW IN THE HECK DO I FIX THIS?!
I adopted my dog Cooper last year as an adult dog (no younger than one, no older than three) and I've had him for a little more than a year. He is a good boy and he is sweet with my 8 month old (nine days out of ten). It has always been evident that he was severely abused in his former home. He used...

Tony Tales
Tony is recovered from his neuter and doing fine. He pulls a LOT on the leash, I need to start working on that. I'd like to try training first before I spend money on an easy-walk harness. Tony is an alpha, so he and Willy are not doing so well together. If Willy is in my lap, on a chair, the sofa...

Living with a submissive, anxious dog
I am the owner of two sighthounds. One, Rose, I have had from a puppy. She is unflappable. I socialized her obsessively when she was a puppy and now she's obedient and has a very solid, if somewhat aloof, temperament. Nothing rattles her. My second sighthound, Janey, I have had for about 2 months...

My dog is only misbehaves towards me
I need help! My pug mix, Pinny, is just like a child. She's so sweet and loving to me while others are around, but if it's just her and I, it's like she's a completely different dog. She gets snappy and feisty almost as if she demanding my attention (which she gets plenty of). she doesn't...

To treat or not treat?
Do you feel its good to train using treats? or is it better to have your dog work for praise? As a trainer treats are nice at the end but its important to me that my dogs listen without having a treat in my hand. I find they loose focus and get too distracted.

Keeping dog in the backyard
our small dog keeps getting out of the yard. We keep fencing any small holes she gets out of, but she is making more. We know the reason she is getting out is to explore. We are out of ideas to keep her in the Yard. We have another dog that has no problem staying in the yard. We have lots of toys and...
