House training (not puppies) problems! Help!
Hi, I'm new here and an experienced dog owner but don't know what to do about these problems. I've never had dogs with housetraining issues like these dogs seem to have. I have 3 dogs all about 3-4 years old -- one female yorkiepoo, two male terrier mixes. Rescues so all spayed/neutered....

Submissive Urination??
We are new here and also our Millie is new to our family. Things have been going pretty good..........one thing that we are noticing is when she hears noises or if the adults in the house raise their voice (my husband is half deaf so we tend to talk louder) or if she thinks shes in trouble.............

This post is solely to move some other posts: Basically Shane is a newly adopted dog @ a year old and his owners are thinking of ways to crate train him Info I posted earlier: Cathy I recommend patience. Keep it open, put a favorite or all his toys in there, put his food bowl in there at feeding...

Whining/barking when I'm gone
Basically, I have been crating Zeke when he is alone in the house since I got him (May). At first it was hard, as he did not like the idea at all. Over time, however, he got to the point where he would be excited to see his Kong, which he only gets in the crate. I was pretty sure he still barked some...

Scheduled Feeding v.s Free Feeding
I have always schedule fed dogs. Making them sit, doing eye contact, waiting, and then releasing to their dish for food. Our puppy right now we have to leave food out all day and she like nibbles a couple bites here and there. Should I just accept that she is free fed? Or take away the food dish for...

Puppy Slow to Adjust / Shy
Our new little 4 month old puppy is more shy/timid and slower to come around. You can tell she trusts us more and more each day (this is her 4th day with us). She has yet to come out of her shell and really "play" - let loose - get happy - get excited. She isn't a fan of the "clicker"...

crate training~On the right track?
I joined this community with my crate training question in mind, but my situation seemed to improve in the time it took me to realize my membership had been excepted. lol. So initially, I was having a problem with Sadie (15 weeks) waking during the night, and still peeing in the crate after more than...

Only responds with treats
Sadie is 7 months old now, and knows the basic commands. However, she doesn't necessarily follow them unless i have a treat in hand. I know this is pretty normal. She's not my first dog, but I really want to do a better job of training her. So, what is? Time? Maturity? Is it a matter of practicing...

4am wake up calls
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has any advice they can offer me. My husband and I got a Mini Dachshund back in March and he is 9 months old this month. He still pees in his crate through the night. We take him out at 11pm for his last pee and put him to bed but he starts barking normally anywhere...

New puppy
Hello! I just got a new White German Shepherd puppy and im starting his crate training. He is very young though because there were complications with the puppies mother so she would no longer feed the puppies so I took him at 5 weeks from the owner. He has been doing really well at my apartment and has...

Puppy pee
I just got a 9wk old miniature schnauzer puppy, he has not completed his shot series yet so I can't take him for walks (we live in a condo) He will go on his puppy pads on the balcony, but after he poops he won't urinate until he gets inside...no matter how long I stay out. Anyone know why?

Puppy pee 2
Ok, so Kona does well with going outside on the balcony (on the training pad).... But he will only go once, meaning if he poops first he won't stay to pee. This only seems to happen first thing in the morning or during the day. I praise him like crazy after he goes. Should I wait until he does both...

Adult doggie potty issues!! :(
I am at my wits end! We rescued our beagle/bulldog over 5 years ago. Within that 5 years we have went through different work schedules, different training methods, and a cat-all of which have been consistent for over 2 years now and the cat is gone! Only about a year and a half ago our dog, Dewey started...

Is Ruby ready to be left un-crated? (Tacran, 11/21/13)
Let's see if anyone finds this thread, since it'll be buried in a sub-category of the Training & Behavior forums! Ruby immediately took to her crate when we first adopted her. She's never refused to go in it or shown indication that she wants to get out. This summer when we had our...

Desensitization & Socialization
Hope everyone has been well. Lillian and I are about to begin either a CGC & TDI prep class or an Advanced class. This once shivering shy puppy we brought home has been blossoming into such a well mannered and lovable companion. Though secretly we've decided the Breeder did not give us a Shetland...

My pooch won't 'go' outside...
Kona has been going on his puppy pads on the balcony great! Now that he has finished his puppy shots, he has gone to doggie daycare and to the dog park. He will not go to the bathroom outside. We stayed at the dog park almost 2 hrs, he played really hard . I watched him closely so I could reward him...

Sudden Food Aggression
Hello. I stumbled upon this website today and am hoping it can be a great help. I've had my American Bulldog (Ellie) for about 5 months now and haven't had any problems with her. She is a sweet, loving, and playful angel. Recently, both of my younger brothers have each adopted puppies. One...
