    5 month old westie

We got a westie male at 7 weeks old.We were on the right track crate training him to use the bathroom outside. We had him neutered at 4 months old.My husband decided to keep him in the crate when he was neutered and he was in there for 10 days other than holding him in our laps.I don't know why I listened to him and didn't just keep taking him out to use the bathroom. So he was peeing and pooping in the crate on the towels that we started letting him sleep on the towels that we let him sleep on when he was going out using the bathroom. Now one of us takes him out and he pees but sometimes poops.Sometimes he comes in and poops in the chair on the towel that my husband uses to hold him in his lap.Or he comes in at night and poops in the crate as soon as he has been out.How can we correct this? Please help.I think he is tired of the crate and wants to be loose.I would appreciate any advice.Thank you.

If you are still putting towels in his crate, stop doing that. Stop giving him access to the things he's having accidents on.

Go here, read the training textbook. Go back to step 1 in the potty training.

Luke was basically trained, except he would pee on his bed. I took his bed away, and he stopped having accidents.  Keep using your crate, and keep him away from the things he has accidents on. Luke had no bed for a while. He was able to sleep on my bed just fine. He does have a bed now, and later on I was able to leave things for him to rest on, but for a while it just could not be done.

Thank you for the advice. We have started the every hour and so far it is working.Even though this is the first day. What do we do at night as he stays in the crate overnight Sometimes there is pee and sometimes there is poop in there. He is stays in the crate when we are not home.Thank you so much for the help.It is really great to have a helpful community. We use towels in our lap to hold him in case he has a pee leak. What can you suggest in place of the towels in our laps? These are the same towels that were in the crate.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe its 1 hour + how many months is how long he can hold it. Every dog is different though.

What is a pee leak? Has he ever piddled on your lap? He was allowed to do his business in the crate? Why?
