Aluminum Acetate for ear infections? Ever heard of this?

Hello, My vet prescribed ALUMINUM ACETATE drops as a new therapy to help prevent chronic ear infections in my Shih Tzu. Has anyone ever heard of this?? It smells like white vinegar. dry heaving - please help

Yesterday we noticed our dog would periodically dry heave. She hadn't recently eaten and nothing came up. After a few heaves, she would be fine and act normal.
