My mentor and I have two litters in progress. The first is scheduled to whelp around May 16th. And the other will hopefully be around June 11th. Today was the first breeding, so no promises yet. It works out well because since they are going to be summer litters, I won't have school and he won't...

Pirate let me cut a nail! One of the back ones! I stealthily got the clippers, and *snip* just did one! We threw a small party for being SUCH A GOOD DOG! Oh man. This is kind of pathetic. But a big step for pirate-kind!

Foundation work article my mom wrote
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
Just thought I'd get some thoughts on this. These are some of the most important foundation skills in my mom and I's view of training. I think, given some of the exciting subjects we've been touching on in other threads, that a discussion concerning the "why" of some of the...

I just realized today that I missed Tasha's birthday!!! It was Sunday and she spent most of the day in a crate in the van because we were at a trial. I'm going to have to make it up to her somehow..... She did get a new collar last week with the correct phone number on it finally... poor girl...

Some daycare questions

Hi all. If you have some experience with daycares would you mind replying to some questions I had? In the future, I am considering owning and running a doggie day care on my own. I've already got plenty of experience, will soon be taking my pet first aid course, am planning on getting a bachelors...

Yard training after always getting a walk
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
My wife and I are trying to get our dog of 2 years to go to the bathroom in our backyard rather than needing to be taken for a regular walk twice a day. So far he is resistant as he doesn't want to go out unless you grab the leash and put on things like a coat, hat, etc--so he knows its a walk in...

So what's worse?
Posted to:

Adding water to my dogs food is not working. They are REALLY put out by this. They loved the food prior to adding water, now they seem grossed out. (They are normally good drinkers, FYI) So, my question is (which I would like to hear opinions on, if you have one Which is worse? Not adding water...

Torn Hamstring

News & Entertainment
OH MY GOD !!! A week ago I slipped on the ice and tore my hamstring in my right leg. The pain was instant and searing. I have been doing all the right things (rest, ice, elevation, compression), but after a week, I am still barely hobbling and can't sit, sleep, etc for any length of time. My leg...

Funky ear stage?
Posted to:
Choosing A Dog
My aussie seems to be going through that funky ear stage that aussies go through while teething. His ears are flopping and hanging every which way and sometimes his left ear stays up in a *** position. I don't want a dog with one *** ear and one floppy one! Will this mellow out with time? (I don't...

I AM AN IDIOT!!!

So I decide to try to introduce Ginny to Smack (the one I have been posting about recently). They both meet on neutral terriroty, outside, on leash. Ginny growls. Smack does nothing and backs away. Ginny snaps, and Smack suddenly snaps back and jumps forward. Within a millisecond a full blown fight has...
