Watching TV (Ottoluv)
Posted to: Training & Behavior
Ok, so otto can watch TV. He can see animals even if they are not making sounds and barks at them. It drives me crazy. Ollie can't see them, but can hear them. Otto on the other hand can see them, I have no idea how because I don't think he should be able to. I've tried to experiment and...

Spinoff from Elitist Attitude - Canine Breeding vs. Human Breeding
Posted to: News & Entertainment
In "The Elitist Attitude" I made a comparison between the act of choosing a human companion and that of choosing a dog, in a nutshell saying that in my considered opinion, wanting the best dog-fit for your life according to your own standards is not elitism, any more than it is when choosing...

I am a 8 month old female chihuahua. I am living here for now until I find a new great home. But I think I'm winning the lady of the house over. The little dog of the house though isnt thrilled about sharing her space or her kid. So I have my work cut out for me here. Oh and this big huge red monster...

They need a Coyote Deterrent for pets
Posted to: News & Entertainment
it would be great if they could come up with something to stop coyotes, I was thinking a collar with metal sharp studs that shock the coyotes mouth, much like square 9 volt battery shocks a persons tongue if they touch it to there tongue to see if it has power in it. I think it would not hurt the coyote...

I heard the last few minutes of today's broadcast of "Fresh Air" on NPR while I was at work. Terri Gross was interviewing Dr. Nick Trout, who is a surgeon at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. He was promoting his memoir (I think it's called Tell Me Where it Hurts ). The few minutes...

Hello all, In two weeks I will be the proud new owner of a 7 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback! I have been considering different training theories and how I want to proceed. Since Ridgebacks can be *very* sensitive, I plan on using positive training techniques only. Ridgebacks are also very food motivated...

Elitist thread warning posted
Posted to: Community Help Center
On topic warning, discussion of culling is very volatile all on it's own since people seem to think it's only killing. I think it should be discussed in another thread and I said so in my warning. The thread was about one or two people labeling others for their beliefs on responsible breeding...
