I heard the last few minutes of today's broadcast of "Fresh Air" on NPR while I was at work. Terri Gross was interviewing Dr. Nick Trout, who is a surgeon at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. He was promoting his memoir (I think it's called Tell Me Where it Hurts). The few minutes I heard were really good -- he sounded like an incredibly compassionate man and a very knowledgeable vet. When asked how he prepares people when they've made the decision for him to euthanize their pet, his response was so kind and thorough that I found myself tearing up at my desk thinking, "Why couldn't we have had a vet like him when we were faced with our dog's final moments?" He seemed to really understand how some people love their pets as they love their children. He also spoke about his own daughter's cystic fibrosis diagnosis and how that has affected him when he interacts with "parents" facing a pet's serious illness.
I wanted to hear the whole interview, so I looked on NPR's website for a link. If anyone would like to hear it, you can go to www.npr.org and search for Nick Trout. I may have to track down his book. There's an excerpt on the website, and it was very good.
Just thought I'd share this with all of you in case you'd like to hear it!
