Recommended Books. Have you read them?
I've made such wonderful connections with people involved with dogs whether through handling, breeding, training, working, etc. Working with our girl really has given me such a wonderful hobby outside of my house and children. I really look forward to our first volunteer day doing therapy work. I...

House training Issues - my 6 month old puppy doesn't seem to remember...
He has two walks a day, frequent trips outside to the garden, but the second we put him out he goes to say hello to the rabbits in the hutch or whines and barks at the door (perfect at 6,30am, just what the neighbours want). He shows no inclination to want to be out there alone or to go to the toilet...

Leashes and Collars
We have a 5 month old pup(Freida). I need to get her a collar to start teaching her to walk without pulling. Do I want to use a choker collar? (I have read that they are not the best in terms of possible damage to the puppy) I was thinking of the type of leash that Cesar M uses, collar and leash in one...

Dog gets way too excited during playing
I know dogs get excited to play but this is on its own level. When i play with him like just running around no problems but the toy seems to trigger something. It used to only happen outside now it's inside. Basically what happens the minute i pick up a toy or accidentally pick up a stick outside...

Training to Lead at Stafford High School in Stafford Kansas has found...
Just to let you know, that Dad is happier than he's been in months. He said that she comes better when he calls her Brittany than Birdie, so he's going to keep the name Brittany. He says when he drops the leash and lets her go, she stays very close to him. If he takes it off she loves to run...

Your New Puppy and Car Rides
Your puppy's first experiences riding in a car will influence his or her future reactions to being taken for a car ride. Fortunately, owners can take steps to prevent or reduce their puppy's stress and fear. 1) For the first few days or so, introduce your puppy to your car by putting him in the...

Official Service Dog?
For a few years Maggie has been more and more helpful to me in alerting me to knocks at the door, people shouting at the front gate, and the telephone ringing. I'm hard of hearing and it's getting steadily worse. But, now Maggie is 13 and it seems she's getting hard of hearing herself...

We went to Lowes
I called the local LOWE'S Home Improvement store and asked for the general manager. I explained to him how Lillian is practicing to be a Therapy Dog and I would love to bring her to the store to work and expose her to noises and people. He was really nice and replied of course. That made me happy...

Why Does My Dog Yawn?
In the language of dogs, the yawn is often used as a calming signal. It's a way of saying, I've had enough and my patience is running out. For example, in a training session, your dog may yawn to deal with frustration and to give himself a mental break. The next time your dog yawns while you're...

Unhappy crating or indoor accidents? Do I have to choose?
Hi everyone! My SO and I got our first dog, a 3 month old Cavapoo named Wuffles after years of 'thinking about it', and we are very excited to bring him home last week. Now.. barely 10 days later we are so very tired and frustrated. Wuffles is my first dog, and my SO's second dog, but he...

Therapy Dog & CGC
Cooper and I will be testing on Saturday and I'm psyched. We did a run through of the test tonight in our Animal Assisted Therapy class (we're the last in the class to finally test) and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Especially because all the things I was worried about are things that...

Service Dog Puppy Raisers
Anyone on here that raises puppies to be service dogs or guide dogs? I thought it would be neat to see if anyone else does this, or knows someone that does. I'm currently raising a Black Lab puppy to be a service dog, with the Canine Companions for Indpendence organization. She's now 7 months...

Training a therapy dog

I am posing the question again, this time with the focus on therapy dog training. Does anyone know what is the best book for therapy dog training? Bauer just recently had his...

Therapy Dog People...
So, I found out that our local therapy dog people are offering a bunch of "pet therapy" classes. You go for hour-long training like a regular class, but some of the sessions are off-site. At the end you can take the CGC and therapy dog test. Next week we are starting intermediate obedience...

Maze is gonna be a service dog
Ok. Some back story. Alex has a bad back injury and can't move around much. Well last week he had a bad scare. He lost feeling from his hips down to his feet for about 5 seconds. I know in the future, the time may come when he needs a wheelchair to get around in. I don't mind but it got me thinking...

Tell me what you know about animal assisted therapy!
Hi all, I used this forum a while ago and became really inactive, but I have a question that I thought one or two of you might be able to help me with! I am looking into animal assisted therapy for myself due to psylogical distress. I have not been seeing a therapist for a very long time (unfortunately...
