Therapy Dogs outside the square
Hi I was moved to write this post when i kept reading about people's thoughts about what they think is requried as a therapy dog. Dogs are needed and are great tools across a wide range of therapies and situations. I remember laughing myself silly at the thought of getting my Lab who died this year...

Service Dog Trainer?
Obviously I can't do this now, but I figured once I get my own place(hopefully sooner rather than later) I'd like to train a service dog for someone in need. I know this would be hard having to give the dog up, but I feel it'd be worth it. Has anyone on here ever done this? Care to share...

A Dancer Story
Dancer's gone, but her memory lives on. She was so loved around here that some of the disabled people she visited still remember her, even though she died in 2006. This story is about a visit we did to a senior citizen residence. Two people stood out in my mind from that day. One was a very prim...

And then they came for me...
THK just released an article on Delta Society's position regarding THK foods - it was not good. Someone asked me where I would draw the line with the raw food policy, well the line has been drawn. I've left a message on the Team Evaluator contact's phone and have sent an email to the policy...

We're going for it
Some how I got talked into taking the therapy dog test early with Maze.. Early as in next month early. LOL I've been working hard to get her ready and while I feel she is ready, I wasn't planning on taking the test until the spring. Now we do still have some leash issues, and I'm not going...

One step closer!
After a minor issue at the senior's home we visit, Maze is back in the game! Week before Christmas one of the residents had accused Maze of biting me when in reality she had just turned her self into a pretzel while getting her butt scratched. The nurses were really understanding and tried their...

Good and not so good news
Sandy is now a certified children's therapy dog. She passed her test with flying colors. Even after a minor "terrier" moment which was ok. Lol! Maze on the other hand... Failed her test.. She did great with the people portion of the test but she went after a bull mastiff and a Pom.. And...

New AKC Therapy certification!
The AKC has a new therapy dog certification. The dog must past a test administered by another acceptable organization and have a minimum of 50 visits. Personally I think it's a neat thing to do. Any dog that passes the TDI, TDinc, Delta, etc and registers with the org can carry the certification...

getting certified as a therapy dog
I have a question for anyone who knows about the testing process. My dog Gotti would be an awsome therapy dog. He loves people of all ages and just wants to cuddle and get pet! He has good leash manners and obeys basic commands. He just turned 7 and is about 45 - 50 lbs. I just will not trust him...

AKC therapy dog title
I am pretty excited about this, especially because since Josie is a member of love on a leash vs TDI, she doesn't get a title. Just thought I would share for anyone else who has a therapy dog/thinking about doing therapy work. http://www.akc.org/akctherapydog/

What's Your Puppy's Schedule
I'm just curious as to what everyone's schedule is for their pups. Taco, my chihuahua pretty much sleeps all day, I swear he's a cat stuck in a dog's body, lol. Tyson, the Great Dane puppy, has a bit more strict schedule. My work days (I work 12 pm til 11 pm, but hubby is home...

How do you socialize your pup with other dogs?
So I signed Luger up for level 1 obedience class in July(have to be 4 months old). I can take him for private lessons for $25 an hour until then. But I asked about puppy socialization classes unfortunately they tried them before but couldn't get enough little ones in at the same time so they don't...

Woohoo, way to go Tyson!
I'm so proud of my little guy. We just went out for a potty break and when we came back in I took off his leash, he padded down the hallway to the kitchen and sat down in front of his crate. He was ready to go to bed!
