Olive Oil in food for dry skin?
Luke gets dandruff sometimes, it seems like in the winter, and someone recommended olive oil. I washed him yesterday because he had matting in his hair, so I brushed it out and put some conditioner in. I can't find anywhere that says how much olive oil I should give him, and the person who suggested...

Switching Foods Question
I have been researching foods pretty much all day long and I'm about to go insane lol. So, my problem is this (may be lengthy so i apologize in advance): I have a feeling that my Saint Bernard may be allergic to chicken, but I'm not 100% sure. Pretty much all large breed dog foods are chicken...

Verbal Commands vs. Body Language
One thing was REALLY brought home to me on Saturday, at our first Agility trial. We spend all this time training our dogs to follow verbal commands: sit, down, off, shake (hands), (play) dead / bang!, turn, spin, dance, and so forth. In two of our runs, we had "traps," also known as obstacle...

Food allergy; switch to Innova?
I recently noticed my 1-year-old Shepherd/Mastiff dog developed skin allergies from the food we were giving him (a quality brand too). I stopped feeding the kibble, switched to a homemade dog food recipe to determine if it's really food allergies, and have noticed the itching/scratching have stopped...

6 month puppy wont stand for judge in conformation
This weekend at an AKC show my puppy Dani in the conformation ring would not stand still for the judge acting afraid. Oddly just two weeks prior she could have cared less at a show. She is well socialized, friendly, outgoing and is even in a beginner OB class.I think we might be going thru that 2nd fear...

Willy has started a new class: Nose Work!
Willy is still in Agility, and has now started classes in Nose Work, as well. Tonight was our second class. For the start, we are getting the dog to use his nose, working with food in boxes. We will progress to closed boxes, containers, and move on from there. This is a relatively new dog ...

Great skijor weekend!
I have not been posting anything for a while on Zeke and my skijor training, and it's time for an update! Yesterday I went to the best event ever for mushing type sports. It was a two day event, with all sorts of races. I got to see 4 dog wheeled carts, 2 dog bikejoring, 1 dog bikejoring (which is...

Have to go cold turkey on a new kibble...
Java is allergic to so much (oats, potatoes, carrots, barley, eggs...not sweet potato, which is odd). So I was giving both dogs Avoderm revolving menu, which seemed to be pretty much OK for Java. I was getting it at PetSmart, and now I see they don't have any. I asked and was told they were having...

Another food question
What are your thoughts on canned food. I have never fed it, I’ve always had the belief its not as healthy as dry. I have research dry and raw and have done a raw diet yrs ago when I only has 1or 2 dogs and a lot more time. I have always tried to feed the best food possible and tried to...

What to do... (janobonano)
For years I fed Rupert NB Potato and Duck. He liked it, and he did great on it. Then all the recalls came, and I hadn't even realized that they were made in a Diamond plant. My local pet food store was clearancing out all their Orijen because it wasn't selling. I bought the last two (small) bags...

Orijin vs. Taste of the Wild - which is best?
Between these two foods, which is better, and why? I'd love to hear everyone's opinions (since I know there will be lots of differences in opinion). Thanks!

Food Suggestions for Senior with digestive issues and allergies
I've taken on what will be most likely a permanent foster. Monty is a senior shepherd with digestive issues but never received the full scope for IBD so call it either IBS or IBD but he'd lost almost 20 lbs by the time he was placed on prescription food. Royal Canin hypo-allergenic. He's...
