I have not been posting anything for a while on Zeke and my skijor training, and it's time for an update!
Yesterday I went to the best event ever for mushing type sports. It was a two day event, with all sorts of races. I got to see 4 dog wheeled carts, 2 dog bikejoring, 1 dog bikejoring (which is what I am doing currently with Zeke), and mens and womens Canicross. I did not get to see 6 dog carts or any scooter events, which they also had. Not only is it awesome to watch, I got all sorts of inspiration and information from all the mushers there. I had no idea there was such a big community of mushers in the Ohio area. They are all great people, and once they realized that I was more than a spectator, so they started stuffing my head full of info. And they fed me lunch
I think I am now welcomed into the fold.
So...because I was newly inspired, I decided to take Zeke out this morning (no work; my nannying client is out of town for thanksgiving=actualy enough time, for once). I hooked him up to my bike, and we went about 4 miles, out and back. HE DID GREAT! This was the first time he has seemed to understand "on by" that is, ignore the distractions. I think it helped that it is under 40 degrees out; He wanted to run. I do need to modify my bike a bit. There is always a chance of tangling the line in my front wheel, which would be bad, and I saw some good ways to fix that yesterday. Unfortunately, I can't recall exactly how they were attached...Oh, well, I can now e-mail people for advice!
Of course, when we got back, Zeke saw the neighbors' cat, and since he was still amped up from running, he went ballistic. But I will try to forget that part of today's excursion. He really did do a good job bikejoring.
