Great skijor weekend!

    Great skijor weekend!

I have not been posting anything for a while on Zeke and my skijor training, and it's time for an update!

Yesterday I went to the best event ever for mushing type sports. It was a two day event, with all sorts of races. I got to see 4 dog wheeled carts, 2 dog bikejoring, 1 dog bikejoring (which is what I am doing currently with Zeke), and mens and womens Canicross. I did not get to see 6 dog carts or any scooter events, which they also had. Not only is it awesome to watch, I got all sorts of inspiration and information from all the mushers there. I had no idea there was such a big community of mushers in the Ohio area. They are all great people, and once they realized that I was more than a spectator, so they started stuffing my head full of info. And they fed me lunch Surprise I think I am now welcomed into the fold.

So...because I was newly inspired, I decided to take Zeke out this morning (no work; my nannying client is out of town for thanksgiving=actualy enough time, for once). I hooked him up to my bike, and we went about 4 miles, out and back. HE DID GREAT! This was the first time he has seemed to understand "on by" that is, ignore the distractions. I think it helped that it is under 40 degrees out; He wanted to run. I do need to modify my bike a bit. There is always a chance of tangling the line in my front wheel, which would be bad, and I saw some good ways to fix that yesterday. Unfortunately, I can't recall exactly how they were attached...Oh, well, I can now e-mail people for advice!

Of course, when we got back, Zeke saw the neighbors' cat, and since he was still amped up from running, he went ballistic.  But I will try to forget that part of today's excursion. He really did do a good job bikejoring.

A 2 day mushing event in OHIO?!  Wow that is fascinating in itself, right there.  That you got to attend and see it is exciting!  That you made contacts for future is FANTASTIC!!

Careful Zeke, your Mom is full of ideas now!   What a good boy, doing so well this morning!  (Silly neighbor's cat, making a fool out of ya)

I'm so jealous that you got to attend this event as it sounds like lots of fun. :)  It's great that you got to connect with some people with experience in the sport.

Go, Zeke!  Except not after the neighbor's cat. lol

Zeke you are a lucky boy and your future looks like a lot of FUN!

Now leave the cat alone! (Bugsy completely understands your feelings about cats though)

Oh, it was fun! It was all dryland racing, which is why Ohio works pretty well. It did get a bit hot for the dogs, though, because it got up to the mid 50s. There is actually another weekend event here in Ohio in January for actual sleds in the snow (assuming we get snow this year). I already have it in my calendar, and If anything else comes up that weekend, too bad!

I'll tell Zeke that you all said to leave the cat alone. Maybe he'll listen better to you than me Smile
