Has anyone heard anything re: fire at Orijen plant? (tacran)
DH just came from the small pet supply shop where we buy Ruby's food (and a whole lot of other things for her!). The owner told him she learned today there was an oven fire at an Orijen plant that would affect the availability of their food. She said they'll be producing at only 40% of their...

Food for dogs with congestive heart failure
Two of my dogs (both Cavaliers, one 11 and one 10) have CHF. Angel, the older one, takes Vetmedin and a low dose of a diuretic, while Bailey takes just Vetmedin. I'd like to give them food that is as good for their hearts as possible. They are currently fed Taste of the Wild or Evo Small Bites kibble...

Human SAM-e for dogs
I'm wondering those who feed a human SAM-e to their pups, what brand do you use? Lately I ordered a brand from iherb, the same brand my vet prescribed, but this one came in a bottle. THEN, I read that SAM-e is most effective when kept in a blister pack till it's ready for use. The bottled one...

Raw Feeding - Beginners Questions
Hello there! I'm considering switching my two dachshunds to raw foods. There are a bunch of reasons why, but the main driving force (besides their overall health) is that it's supposed to help a lot with dogs with anal gland issues. Both of mine need theirs emptied at least once per month (or...

Puppy food for adult dogs
Is there any reason to not feed a puppy food to an adult dog? I ask because I just recently switched brands to Taste of the Wild, and the closest formula they had to what Zeke had been eating (bison based) is the Prairie. However, this formula also has chicken in it, which Zeke does not tolerate well...

Any Utility competitors here?
I'm working on scent articles with my girl and have run into a slight problem. If I offer her the scented article to sniff, instead of my hand she finds it with no problems. If I offer her my palm to sniff, she seems to pick up on the leather scent and gets very confused. Is it "legal"...

How much chicken & rice to feed 25 lb dog?
Our little one, a 25 lb Lab mix, is not happy. She also recently had her bed/sleeping area changed drastically...

Rules of Thumb for choosing dog foods
#1. If it is advertised on TV - avoid it. #2. If the first ingredient isn't meat - avoid it. #3. If it contains corn or grain - avoid it. a lot of the meat from cheaper dog foods are at best culled animals and at worst...the meat like paste from the floors of slaughter houses. Dogs aren't...

There is an obedience dog in there!
Dodger is 6 months old now and we've been working on formal training for about 2 months. In the beginning I play games to show puppies that training is fun. So far we've almost perfected a long distance recall, down, sit, left hand finish, leave it and a calm meet and greet. We've been working...
