Ear Infection?
Hi everyone! Dweezil had an ear infection a month ago (yeast, the dr. said), and then her scratching stopped for awhile (thank God, because putting those drops in was a nightmare). I went to a different vet to have her spayed, and in the pre-anesthetic exam he checked her ears and said that it cleared...

Hernia Post-Surgery
Hi there! I am a frequent reader, occasional poster here. Hoping someone might be able to help me in the way of sharing their own experience if their beloved pooch has been in a similar situation. My (funny I should say "my", she clearly rules the roost!) nine year old border collie mix...

Animax for ear infection
My beautiful 5 year-old Bella recently had brown wax in her ears (we just began cleaning her ears regularly), and I took her to the vet today and we got a prescription of Animax to use twice a day for the next 10 days, as well as OtiClens for cleaning post-Animax. Should I clean in between Animax treatments...

Spaying questions!
The vet told me that JJ can be spayed at any time. So that answers one of my questions. I like to have a list of questions that I should ask when I do make the appointment for her to be spayed. What are the important things I should ask before taking her there, so at least I know?

Nose Area Pox / Rash/ Bite
Vine (1 yr black lab) has maybe five or six raised bumps around his nose area. They look like pimples but the size of peas. At first I noticed two and thought they might be bites or stings (he was playing with a bumble bee). They started out pink and then turned white. Then I noticed a few on the other...

How much fish oil for 15lb dog?
I was given some Alaskan Bear Treats fish oil and want to know how much I should give my 15lb Bichon who itches a lot. He never makes hot spots but is always scratching somewhere. I was giving him the fish oil capsules from the store but I think it was too much at 1,000 mg because his stools were soft...

How long will she stink?
I just adopted a dog from a rescue that was feeding Purina Dog Chow. She has very flaky skin, a dull coat, and smells very doggie (PU!). I'll start feeding her NB Duck and Potato and homecooked right away. How long until her coat looks and smells better?

Sassy and the continuing saga
Some may remember the posts on the other board about Sassy and her infections (yeast, staph and pseudomonas) which started in Jan. They put her on Ketaconazale, Cipro and Clindamycin for 21 days. Her tummy area (staph & pseudomonas) and her vulva area (yeast) looked all healed. We went in for the...

Tell me about Temaril P
hey guys, Daisy went in to check her skin last week, (she's been scratching and itching like crazy- spring means allergy season for both her and me! The vet perscribed Temaril-P. I told her I was not very comfortable with putting her on straight prednisone. She says that this drug (Temaril)...

high alkaline phosphates
Hi! I have two hefty female dogs (lab/chow is 12 and lab is 6- both weigh around 70 lbs.). At one of our check-ups we found that the oldest had very high alkaline phosphate levels; after about $1,000.00 worth of testing they couldn't really tell me anything... the next step was surgery. I declined...

Gophers and dogs???
Hi, everyone! I took my dog to the local off-leash dog park for a hike the other day, where we usually go several times per week at least. There are lots of gophers that live there, and my dog loves to stalk them and pounce on them, sometimes sticking her nose into their holes and rooting around after...

Andy has bone cancer
Some of you may remember Andy, my flatcoated retriever, from several years ago, when I posted as "Dr. Lucy." I diagnosed him with bone cancer (osteosarcoma) last week. I have always known that his breed is very prone to cancer. Osteosarcoma is a particularly nasty, aggressive one. With amputation...

We have a liver shunt...
I haven't posted on here in quite sometime. The last time I posted little Dexter was having accidents...I thought it was behavioral..turned out to be a UTI that we could not get to go away. The vet was concerned about stones, so we did X-rays and when nothing showed up but the problem persisted,...

Max's ears- could this be an allergy?
Back in January (his prescription is dated the 6th) Max had a build up of black stuff in his left ear, so much that you could just see it if you flipped his ear over and weren't even looking closely. It was also red, and he was rubbing at it, which is what made me flip it and look at it. Since then...

Scooter's mom
Already using Frontline Plus but can I also ...
use an all natural tick repellent spritzer as well? Living in S. Jersey, Scooter gets year round Frontline Plus, but I just hate it that Frontline Plus doesn't repel ticks, just kills them once they are attached. So, what do you guys think?
