    Yeast Infection ...Help!!!

I have a 4 almost 5 year old male GSD. He has had reaccuring yeast infections since he was about 2. He has yeast ear problems, he chews on his feet, and he scratches his mouth area. I have been constantly chaning his food becuase the vet said it was probably a food allergy. Every vet I've been to has given us wash, ointment, so on but this is only a temporary fix and does not really treat the long term problem. I hate vets! Anyway now I'm trying Innova's EVO(which he doesn't seem to like) and I clean out his ear 1-2 times a day. I also give him Nzymes's drops and treats. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help me? I'm getting really discouraged Thanks!

I certainly feel for you as I've been going thru the same thing for the last couple of years.  Short of doing allergy testing, here's what I found - when I switched Sassy to Natural Balance Duck & Potato last year, she had her last ear infection.  Honestly, that has been the single most amazing (positive) thing that's happened with this dog's life.  However, it didn't help with the paw licking.  I found that using a solution of real strong black tea (I just put it in a water bottle) to rinse her feet off a couple times a day, really helped.  The vet says that a vinegar/water mix would also work.  If you're using any type of plastic bowl to feed, change to stainless steel.  That might help with the itchy muzzle.  Shampooing frequently with a medicated shampoo (I used Nu Sal T) really helps too.  It gets those allergens off the coat and feet.  Other than that, you can try using an antihistamine, like Benadryl, to see if that helps.
I honestly know how frustrating this is and I wish you luck!

If you see a dermatologist they will know more ideas. If everything else that you try does not work there is a good medicine for fungus. It will get rid of it. You can try other things first, but that yeast is awful for the doggies. A good vet should know meds that work and really get rid of it for a very long time. I have been through that. I have a vet and a derm. for my Trudy. She has been skin tested, I give her the shots from her antigen and she takes a good antihistamine and eats Natural Balance Fish and potato. Sally

Strangely enough, I've had incredibly good luck with AZO yeast tablets. They're a homeopathic combination of ingredients. Emma has not had a yeast infection since I started giving them, sporadically. I also use probiotics.
