How much fish oil for 15lb dog?

I was given some Alaskan Bear Treats fish oil and want to know how much I should give my 15lb Bichon who itches a lot.  He never makes hot spots but is always scratching somewhere.  I was giving him the fish oil capsules from the store but I think it was too much at 1,000 mg because his stools were soft and for the first time since we've had him (one year) he had to have his anal glands expressed.  So what is an appropriate dose that won't make all of his stools soft?  I have a separate bottle with syringe for measuring the fish oil but it reads in drops or ml not mg.

Also is vit E also needed since this is a commercially prepared fish oil for dogs?

    Thanks in advance,
    Heather

I can easily give my 16 pound dog twice or three times that much. She's itchy and usually has one ailment or another. I usually give her a tablespoon full in the morning, or 2-3 capsules of 1000 mg. If it's making your dog's stool soft, try starting at half the recomended dose.

Here's a good link about dosages (for various EFA's):

I give 500-1000 mg per ten pounds body weight (fish body oil).
