Took Maze to the vet....
For the past 6 months or so I've been keeping an eye on a lump on Maze's chest... This past month it has grown quite a bit, to the point we can see it from a distance now. So I took her in today.. It concerned the vet due to the solidness and the fact that it is attached to the skin and muscle...

Lyme Disease
For all non-facebook users *wry grin*, Ari was just diagnosed with Lyme disease. She's had no symptoms that we've seen. She does have a swollen thing, shaped like a v, on the roof of her mouth that the vet (prior to the lyme disease test coming back) was concerned could be indicative of kidney...

Wound care
Talked with Dad's doc at the nursing home yesterday, he is prescribing a honey ointment for an infection Dad has. He said we should never use neopsorin, or bacitracin on any wound (for a diabetic or nondiabetic). Here is the link: honeyointment.org Knowing about hot spots, I asked about dogs. He...

So Grey has hip dysplasia...
I took Grey and Junior to the vet on Thursday. I saw a new vet (at the same clinic) because my regular two were out. Grey has never really been a good patient. In fact, the last couple of times, he's had to wear the Hannibal Lecter-style Muzzle of Shame because he growls and shows his teeth. So he's...

Cujo had his surgery
He did fairly well during. They told me his heart and breathing started to become irregular so they decided after removing both eyes that he had had enough and did not do the dental cleaning. This was done on the 11th, he came home that night and though he looks freaky he is doing great. He is playful...

Bugsy update - 12 weeks post biceps tendon release and elbow surgery
Well we are now 12 weeks post op - the operation was a biceps tendon release (he had a near full tear after months of biceps tenosynovitis) and removal of a bone chip from his elbow and debridement of the elbow joint (officially he had a traumatic fragmented medial coronoid process (TFMCP). We saw the...

pyoben shampoo
Can/should pyoben shampoo be used all over rather then localized? Sadie was diagnosed with demodetic(sp) mange. Vet said to use it just in the spot, but I'm wondering if it would be a proactive measure do 1 better and clean her whole body with it.

What if she goes into heat?
Sadie is about 22 weeks old. Are we calling that 5 1/2 months, or is the month mark at the DATE? Anyway, her rescue belongs to the program where her spay will only cost me $20. HOWEVER, every vet I call says they are out of funding until July1st. I have to call then and hopefully there is the funding...

A different method of acupuncture
Some of you may remember when Jessie started on tramadol a few months ago. It helped a lot with her arthritis pain. At the time, my vet also recommended a holistic vet for pain management; he had heard positive comments about her from some of his clients. Jessie has done well on the tramadol but I took...

Cujo returns
Hi everyone, it's been ages since I posted and wouldn't ya know its Cujo having problems again. He has been completely blind since age two, and now it seems he has glaucoma . Since there is no sight to save, the recommended treatment is removal of both eyes. The thing is I can see his eyes enlarging...

Lacey has a back issue. Positive thoughts and prayers, please.
Lacey is my local shelter dog adoption. She was found roaming the streets of Providence, RI, and ended up at the dog pound for over 2 months, as they had an outbreak of kennel cough and had to stop all adoptions (she did not get it). At the time, my vet estimated her age at 5 to 7 years. I had to have...

Bibbon's broken tooth, vet visit and a little venting
I was bracing myself for Ribbon's vet visit. I always suffer from sticker shock at my vets and knowing Ribbon had some teeth issues, had sustained a small scratch to her eye I wanted looked at, was due for her annual exam and this was her first visit since her "episode" in April - I knew...

Deramaxx or Rimadyl - Is there a significant difference, other than...
My dog, Toot, is an 11 year old Border Collie who has osteoarthritis in her hind leg/hip area and my Vet provided a test sample of Deramaxx to try. After giving this medication to her for only a couple of days; the level of improvement was remarkable! Prior to using this medication; she had trouble going...

Neurological issues anyone?
Has anyone had a dog who started experiencing neurological problems? If so, I need ideas, comments, suggestions, stories...something. Brown is a 14 year old Lab who probably hasn't let out a real bark in years. He instead makes a honking noise lol. Until recently, he had been in very good health...
