Looking for an in-home behavorist - Oklahoma City area
I have a couple of complicated issues and I would love to have someone come and observe the dogs in their environment. I have had one consultation (not in-home) with one "behavorist" on an unrelated issue and I was not comfortable with the methods he used. There is another person that I trust...

I can't take my neighbors dog anymore. Please help!!!
I have 2 cocker spaniels named Abe and Kenny. Kenny is the more dominant of the 2 dogs and tends to bark more at other dogs. Abe is really quirky and sometimes woofs when hears something and barks at the birds that fly aroudn outside and the doorbell. A couple of years ago our next door neighbor got...

CPDT's questions
I am feeling somewhat uneducated lately, and I don't even have a degree of any sort. I was looking for something to do which could be independent study type thing but have to do with dogs. Since Echo and I adore my trainer, I thought about getting a CPDT just to have something that defines...

How do I get Apollo...
...to come when called when my back is toward him? Tonight we did some simple c/t practice just for fun to kill time until dinner ( mainly sit, down, stay, roll over, paw, other paw, etc). I noticed that if I put my back to Apollo and recall him (and he has a stellar recall when I'm looking at him...

More ?'s about prey drive
Bugsy is very high prey drive, always has been. Doing some field work and retrieving work has helped to give him an outlet for this drive along with some control over it. They way I see it this is working with it instead of ignoring it. I have never really tried to squelch his prey drive as it isn't...

Reactive dogs question
I am curious. Those with reactive dogs, do you find their behaviour to be unpredictable? Will they always react the same way to a trigger and just intensify that behaviour with decreasing distance, or do they do different things depending on the situation?

What makes a trainer?
I got Jean Donaldson's book "Train Your Dog Like a Pro" recently. I love her books and writing style. :) The book is one I would highly recommend for anyone wanting to learn how to train their dog. The thing that struck a chord with me was in the introduction which is titled the same as...

Why Are There More Female Than Male Pet Dog Trainers in America?
Hi all, In " Why Dogs Pull on the Leash, Pt. II: Gender Roles & Sexual Chemistry " (my most recent article for PsychologyToday.com), I examine and try to provide an answer the following questions: What do the BP oil disaster, the root-seeking behaviors of plants, the collective movements...

Treat Bags!
I have experiences with two treat bags, both are the same brand. They're made by outward hound, so far this is the only brand of bag I'm familiar with ( I'm planning to make my own rather than buy another one in the future) I LIKE this one!! I have the blue stripey one on the bottom right...

Dublin Collars
Quite a few of us have these (well, except poor Bugsy, lol), so I thought I would share this experience with you guys. Most of you know about Harry's car accident. We're not sure how it happened, but the D-ring on the collar broke during the melee. This is probably a good thing, because otherwise...

Not even sure...
Hey guys so I'm not sure if this is even a behavioral problem or more so just Simba's prey-drive. So my sister has a little girl come over here from time to time to watch right? And Simba IS good with kids, but this girl keeps running around, which of course gets Simba worked up. He's got...

Do Two Dogs Go Native?
Whenever I see a news article about a child or person being attacked by a dog, the first common denominator is that the owner of the 'attack' dog has left the dog unsupervised in a situation that it shouldnt be in. Gone out for two seconds to have a cigarette, left grandma in charge etc etc....

Ugh
This isn't really me asking for advice, just good vibes I guess. So for the most part Simba is better with the whole nipping thing when he gets worked up, the bites aren't as hard as they used to be and they're less on most days. The gentle leader has helped a lot but tonight he started jumping...

How serious are "air snaps" between dogs?
So, I have a geriatric male lab mix and a one(ish) year old male pit who just joined the family. The old lab has never been DA, and the pit, surprisingly, doesn't show any "normal" signs of being truly DA, either (yet, at least). On walks, the pit gets "happy butt" and "smiles"...

Will it be an Outlet or Make it Worse???? (sillysally)
Sally has high prey drive. She has killed small wild critters in the yard before (and "hunts" in the yard a lot) and gets *super* excited when we are walking and she sees a critter that runs from her. It is truly hard to get her focus back on us after a critter makes an appearance. She has...
