If method is important to you, and you want someone who is very well qualified, you should search the Animal Behavior Society or AVSAB site, or call the nearest veterinary college for a referral. IACP does not certify behaviorists as I understand the term. A behaviorist is someone with an advanced degree (Ph.D. or DVM) with a specialty in applied animal behavior. If you are seeking a trainer or behavior consultant, and not necessarily a behaviorist, then someone who belongs to IACP is likelier to employ so called balanced or correction training than someone from IAABC, IPDTA, or APDT. If you trust the person who is 90 miles away, why not call that person for a referral?
