DM tests?
Any other breeders or fanciers out there familiar with DM testing? As I understand this is relatively new? DM is a big deal with GSDs so I figure since it's simple for me to do the test kit (cheek swab) and relatively inexpensive, I'd get Pan tested through OFA but I'm wondering how reliable...

When I had Honey in this week my vet was telling me that he is seeing more and more cancers, especially cacners he rarely saw when he started out 20 years ago. He said last week 3 days in a row he confirmed bladder cancer in a dog each day, something never before. He said he might see a case onece every...

Megaesophagus
AS you guys might know..I lost my dear sweet Bubblegum and this is what she had. They also treated her for Myascinia Gravis ( which is not spelled correctly I don' think) but not sure she had it. You see, they said the test is very expensive AND lengthly. Bubby didn't have a fighting chance....

Heartworm positive rescue dog
Last weekend, my husband and I adopted a dog (who we've named Henry) from a local animal rescue group. Henry is a Feist, a little over a year old, and had been at the rescue since last May. According to the paperwork we were given, Henry was heartworm negative (hw test was in May) and had been on...

Thyroid test
You guys may remember in early fall that I took Gibby for a thyroid test...he had been licking his feet to death and had to take him in to make sure that they were not infected. At that time I had tried to inform the vet about Dr. Jean Dodds...but he wasn't buying it. The test was sent to the lab...

Skin Pain
My Jack Russell is acting like the skin on her back and flanks is painful to our touch. Our otherwise healthy, 9 1/2 year old JRT began shaking and cowering today. She isn't limping and has no skin lesions or rashes, this wasn't proceeded by activity or a traumatic event. She hasn't had any...

Quick Thoughts on elevated BUN
I had Buddy to the vet vet yesterday for his annual check up. He has been healthy. No concerns. The vet called this morning and said everything was perfect except he had elevated urea. Last year his level was 4.5 and in now 14. His diet has not changed. The vet suggested it could be an ulcer or possibly...

Degenerative Myelopathy
My almost 11ish boxer Maya has just been diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy. We thought it was just her arthritis starting to get bad at the end of December and we started her on Metacam. She did not get better and started to become a lot more wobbly. Just this Friday 2/3 she went back to the vet...

wired dremel versus battery operated
I have struggled with Bugsy's nails forever due to their size and hardness and quick growth. I have used a rechargeable dremel for years to do his nails with the battery usually loosing its charge before the job was done and the whole process took FOREVER! I was hesitant to use the corded version...

My mother's friend has a dog who has been treated for a cancerous tumor on her head. My mother referred to it as "brain cancer." After a few months of chemo, they recently discovered a couple more tumors near the dog's tail end, so I'm not sure if my mother is mixed up about what...

Lacey is healing and feels a bit better.
Lacey spent Thursday at the vet. She'd been feeling awful for about 2 weeks, had her in once for a check. I thought the pain was due to a bad tooth, the vet thought it was neck pain. We tried Deramaxx, with minimal success. So Thursday she went in for xrays and a dental. The good news: the xrays...
