HAE YOU ALL EVER HEARD OF THIS? ONE OF THE GOLDENS ON ONE OF MY GOLDEN FORUMS STARTED DROOLING HORRIBILY TWO DAYS AGO. HE COULDN'T SEE TO ACTUALLY DRINK, THO HE WAS SPENDING A LOT OF TIME AT THE WATER DISH, AND FOOD FELL FROM HIS WHEN HE TRIED TO EAT. SHE SAID HIS MOUTH WAS LIKE A WATER FALL, HE WAS DROOLING SO BAD.
DIFFERENT ONES THOUGHT ABOUT SOMETHING HUNG BETWEEN TEETH, POSSIBILY SOMETHING IN HIS THORAT, ETC. SHE LOOKED AND COULDN'T FIND A THING. GOT HIM TO THE VET FIRST THING YESTERDAY MORNING AND AFTER A EXAM OF HIS MOUTH0--NOT BAD OR BROEKN TEETH, NOTHING BETWEEN TEETH, NOTHING IN THROAT. THEN HE VET LOOKED UNDER MONTY'S TONGUE AND TOLD WENDY HE HAD "BURR TONGUE"
IT SEEMSA CERTAIN BURR HAS LITTLE TINY HOOKS AND WHEN THE DOG CHEWS THE BURRS OUT OF HIS COAT THOSE HOOKS OR WAHTEVER GET INTO HIS LIPS, TONGUE, ETC AND CAUSES LESSIONS . THE VET PUT MONTY UNDER AND REMOVED WHAT HE COULD AND THEN UT HIM ON ANTIBIOTICS.
NONE OF US HAD EVER HEARD OF THIS BURR TONGUE. A COUPLE GOOGLED IT AND THIS IS ONE OF THE SITES (I HOPE IT WORKS) I THINJKS THIS COULD BE SOMETHING GOOD FOR EVERYONE TO KNOW--OH, THAT VET TOLD LINDA HE HAD SEEN 6 DOGS RECENTLY WITH BURR TONGUE AND ALL WERE GOLDEN RETRIEVERS, THO ANY LONG HAIR DOG OR CAT CAN GET IT.
Here is a link to the article I read about Burr Tongue...
