    wired dremel versus battery operated

I have struggled with Bugsy's nails forever due to their size and hardness and quick growth. I have used a rechargeable dremel for years to do his nails with the battery usually loosing its charge before the job was done and the whole process took FOREVER!

I was hesitant to use the corded version for fear it would run too hot or be hard to work with - well was I ever wrong!

A VERY kind soul sent me a wired dremel and I spent a few nights getting him used to it - first just touching it, then touching it when it was plugged in, then touching it to his nails, then touching it when it was running and then finally using it on his nails.

    Well several things have happened.

#1 I can actually do all his nails without running out of juice and it is much faster

#2 he clearly is more comfortable with this dremel on a high speed than he ever was with the cordless version - so more speed is better (in our case)

#3 his nails are getting shorter - this has been a constant battle for me. I want them shorter but even doing them every other day I wasn't getting anywhere. now I am doing them twice a week and getting somewhere

So if you aren't have a great time with your battery operated dremel may be its time to try the corded type

And a big thank you to my angel Wink

Never even occurred to me to try one!!  I've always had the rechargable one.  Thanks!

I was so sick of my rechargeable dieing before I could finish too! I finally made DH get his corded Dremel from his mom's garage (where most of his tools are; we don't have a garage). I use the lowest speed, which was a bit faster than the fastest setting on my old one. I love it!

I only wish there was a small vacuum attachment so I didn't have to get dust everywhere. I wear a mask but it still gets on my face and glasses.

DH, who owns all the tools in our house, had a brief period of time where rechargeable was the way to go, no cord to get in the way, etc. Once he had one or two episodes where he was in the middle of something, the battery got low and he had to wait HOURS to finish, he will never go back to cordless stuff again*.

We have a corded dremel, it works just great. Pretty much it's only use is dog nails! I only use it on speed 3 or thereabouts, somewhere in the middle. Also make sure to change the sanding drum thingy, that makes a difference as well.

*except the lawn mower. He had corded and got frustrated dragging a cord around the yard, so now we have a rechargeable. It's pretty decent but when it's a little wet out or thick it takes two charges. Can you tell we aren't a gas-powered family? He's all about the electricity.

I love my corded dremel tool for the dogs.  With four sets of toes to trim, it's a true timesaver. The one I have isn't a brand name dremel but it has held up well and was cheap enough to replace without much pain if it does die.

Jan, I agree about the dust and debris flying.  I need to get some safety glasses to wear over my regular glasses.  I've found that there is much less dust flying if the dogs nails are soft from a bath or swim.

Corded is the only way to go! The battery one is a royal pain!

I started out with the corded version. My only issue was that by the time I had done two or three large dogs it became uncomfortably warm in my hand. (I go very gradually because I want to get as short as possible so I take a long time with it)

I tried the normal cordless that most people use (4.8V) and I was lucky to get one big dog done before it started slowing down. So I bought the 7.2V cordless dremel and I love it. Plenty of power for multiple dogs.

you are SUCH a girl LOL...EVERYONE who knows anything about tools (which a Dremel is)..knows you ALWAYS use the corded over the battery unless there is NO OTHER CHOICE. There is always a HUGE difference in power and efficiency. Always. Glad it's working for you and Bugs.

Well I knew it was more powerful, but I don't even trust myself with power tools, hahaha at least I wasn't using an emory board on his nails
