    HONEY'S PROTIEND LEVEL TO HIGH

A MONTH AGO WE NOTICED THAT OUR ALMOST 11 YEAR OLD GOLDEN RETRIEVE, HONEY SEEMD TO BE DRINKING MORE WATER THAN USUAL.  MY THOUGHTS--UTI OR DIABETES.  TOOK HER IN (MY REGULAR VET WAS AT A VET SEMINAR SO HAD TO SEE ONE HE HAD FILLING IN FOR HOM..  SHE DID A COMPLETE BLOOD PANEL, URINE TEST, FECAL TEST, ETC, AND THE ONLY THING THAT APPEARD OUT OF ORDINARY WAS THE HIGH PROTIEN LEVEL IN BOTH BLOOD AND URINE.  SHE PUT HER ON ANTIBIOTIS (MOXIE i THINK IT WAS) AND ON SCIENCE DIET KD.  TOLD ME TO BRING HER BACK IN 30 DAYS.  OH, HONEY HAD PUT ON 5 POUNDS, THAKS TO HUBBY SNEAKING HER FOOD SHE DOESN'T NEED.

SO, SHE TOOK THE ANTIBIOTICS FOR 2 WEEKS, WENT ON THE KD AND I EVEN CUT BACK HER FOOD A LITTLE AND TOLD HUBBY I WOULD STRANGLE HIM IF HE KEPT GIVING HER JUMK AND TASTES OF THIS AND THAT.

TOOK HER BACK IN YESTER WITH UNRINE SAMPLE AND HER PROTIEND LEVEL WAS ABOUT THE SAME AS IT WAS A MONTH AGO.  HE DIDN'T DO THE BLOOD TEST.  AND I HAD GOTTEN 2 POUNDS OFF HER IN THE MONTH SINCE LST VISIT.  HE COULD NOT FEEL ANY ABNORMALTIES IN HER ABDOMAN AT ALL, AND NOTHING HURT WHEN HE PUSHED AND PROBED (IN FACE SHE MANAGED TO LICK HIM RIGHT IN THE MOUTH WHILE HE WAS EXAMINING HER).  HE DECIDED TO PUT HER ON CIPRO FOR 30 DAYS, FOR ME TO CONTINUE THE KD AND THEN I AM TO BRING HER BACK IN WITH A URINE SAMPLE FROM IRST TRIP OUT IN THE MONRING.  AND WE WILL GO FROM THERE.  IF PROTIEN IS HAS NOT DROPPED A GOOD AMOUNT, HE IS GOING TO DO ULTRASOUND ON BLADDER AND KIDNEYS, AND WILL GO FROM THERE

MEANWHILE SHE SHOWS NO SIGN OF ILLNESS OR PAIN OR PROBLME.  SHE RUNS, JUMPS SPINS, THROWS HER TOYS AROUND AND POUNCES ON THEM, RUNS FULL SPEED AHEAD UP AND DOWN THE FENCE PLAYING WITH DOGS BEHIND US, AND AS ALWAYS TRIES TO STEAL FOOD OFF THE COUNTER OR BEG IT FROM US.  HAS ALWAYS DONE THAT.  AS MY VET SAID, SHE LOOKS AND ACTS MORE LIKE SHE IS 3 OR 4 REATHER THAN ALMOST 11.STRANGE THING, SHE HAS NO SIGNS OF ARTHRITIS EITHER.  LAYS WITH LEGS SREAD, FROGGY DOGGY WE CALL IT, CAN JUMP UP FASTER THAN YOU CAN BLINK, ETC.  BUT THAT HIGH PROTIEN LEVEL HAS ME VERY CONCERNED.

Sandra, I don’t have any advice, but I just wanted to say I hope you’re able to figure this out soon. It sure sounds like Honey is feeling good and having fun!

Did he do a protein creatine ratio; it helps determine how serious the protein loss is. Jessie has a small amount of protein loss in her urine; 2++. She is 13 and a half and may have early kidney disease. Her blood work is well within normal ranges. She is on Benazepril for the protein loss and tolerates it very well.  As of now, the vet does not want me to feed her a kidney diet or restrict the amount of protein she gets.  It's possible that Honey has glomerular disease, a common type of kidney disease that causes protein loss in the urine.

If the vet determines that  she has kidney diseasefish oil and CoQ10 may help.

(((Sandra))); I hope it's something that's easily treated.

    Sandra,

    How is Honey doing?

Honey is doing great.  Heck, she even likes that Science Diet kd.  I am not partial to using Science Diet, bytut the two times I have used it before, it worked great.  Used it on KayCee to get weight off her after her two knee surgeries kept her inactive for solong, and then on Buck when he got his one and only kidney infection.

She goes back in for urine and blood work in 3 weeks.  Thanks for askin.g
