Chyna (papered Boxer)- Free from idiot brother.  Then after spay, vaccinations, 3 leg surgeries, 4 tumor removals, & chemo, I'd say that she's cost me about $10,000 to date.
Bevo (papered Doberman)- Free to aviod euthanasia by idiot owners.  Then after neuter, parvo treatment, vaccinations, hips/elbows OFA'd, behaviorists for 8 weeks, I'd guess about $7,000-8,000.
Brinxx (Certified mutt)- Free, dumped due to mange & pregnancy.  After her spay, Vaccs. & mange treatment, About $100  Finally a cheap "free" dog.
Shooter (papered dachshund)-Free to avoid euthanasia due to parvo.  After parvo treatment, vaccinations, treatment for demodex, neutering About $600.
Schatzi (papered dachshund)- Free from grandparents after grandma was hospitalized long term.  She was already vaccinated, but I had her spayed last week so $50.
Cindy (papered Doberman)- Free from a man who was housing 28 dogs in a 1 bedroom apartment.  So far, since Saturday, I have only had her vaccinated, & dewomed so about $30

Wow,  "free" dogs sure can be expensive.

    $40 adoption fee

$60 neuter (special rate for shelter dog)

Total - $125 out the door

Mine were all meant for a job so they came from serious working lines. Priced as young pups all well over a grand. Now after hard training each is worth (insurance - not resale) the price of luxury vehicles.

Thor, about 4.5 months was "reduced" because he was older.  He was $450.  Sheba, at 7 weeks and wayyyy too young was $500, and both came home together.  If I remember correctly they have ONE great, great grandparent in common.  They are from working lines but with some show relations....grandma was a big show dog.

Shadow was "free".  The foster child let Sheba out to play with Thor when I was doing laundry!  He was the only pup in the litter.

Thunder was part of a foster litter who we kept for oldest DS whose finance decided suddenly that she is afraid of dogs.  $200 adoption fee and a lot of blood sweat and tears.

Tyler and Theo, another foster litter who didn't find good homes.  Tyler went to one, but came back.  We didn't "pay" for either of them, but the rescue got my services for those pups for weeks on end, so thats worth something........

The prior "owners" of Willow had told my husband they were going to put her down.  He had mentioned this to a friend of ours who was also with him that weekend in Vermont.  He said he was going to offer the guy $100 for her.  Our friend, said, "no, you'll get the dog for free."  And, went to talk to the guy.  And, he did end up taking her for free.  She came with nothing, she had nothing.  We then spent thousands (and I'm not at all exagerating, we spent all our $5000 in wedding money and more, we could be living in our own home right now) getting her health back.  And, I'm still spending extra on vet care every few months for little chronic things that keep popping back up.

Daisy was $200 from a BC rescue group.  She was vetted and spayed.  I still took her to my vet and paid around $100 for tests/exam/chipping.

my most expensive one was Baxter, reduced to $800 because he was "pet quality"- didn't quite have the proper pattern of white. My best dog ever I paid a lady $100 in a parking lot to give me the pup NOW instead of kicking and screaming at the cowering little thing. My "nightmare" rescue dog was $25 from a shelter.

Conrad was about $50 from the pound. I'm pretty sure his neuter was on voucher because I don't remember paying for it, but we had it done at our vet the day after we brought him home. Mircochip was also part of the package. That pound is so high volume they basically pay YOU to take these dogs off their hands.

Marlowe was $125 from the shelter, neuter, vax and chip all included. Though the worming he was given at the shelter didn't even come close to getting them all and he had to have a second round for which I footed the bill. Goll dang those pills are expensive! Having actually found his breeder online (he has tattoos), apparently I got quite a deal because he's worth more like $300 (as a pup, which he isn't--if he has hunting training and some titles, which I have no idea if he does, his value starts to approach 4 figures, but then again he's neutered, so actually his value to his breeder is now down to approximately $0.00). And you'd think that someone with a potentially pricey dog would like chip them and put tags on their collar, right? People never cease to amaze me.

Our first dog Ananda was also from the $50 pound. When you walk in to that place (which is unusual for pounds of its type in that it is run by volunteers and very well-meaning but monsterously over-worked staff) they basically roll out a red carpet and kiss your feet and BEG you to PLEASE take a dog. Here, have two! What can WE do for YOU to get you to walk out of here with a dog, RIGHT NOW?!?!
