How much did you pay for your dog?

    Mika, Heinz 57 - $20 from a rescue
    • Gold Top Dog
I think Millie, Max and Georgie were all $75. Our first dog was free, because the shelter refused to take her.

I simply can't go into all the dogs here. A sampling:

    Ben, rescue, $150
Lu, guard dog, partly trained, $800
Doug, "started" on sheep, meaning he could run a basic trial course, $1500
Cord, almost fully trained, sire won National Finals and dam is out of one of the most successful matchups in US BC history - well, I can't tell how much but I got a break because he's actually a bit past his due date in terms of finishing his training.
Rocky, farm bred, no papers, free in return for services rendered.
Ted puppy, grandsire won the International Supreme twice, grandsire on bottom won once, mother's grandsire won it twice, it goes on and on. I actually don't remember but I think I paid $500 for him.

Zero - 75 dollars, Beagle... most likely looks like a beagle, sounds like a beagle, acts like a beagle, but when you put her next to a show quality beagle she looks different.  She is maybe an inch taller than the standard, and her face is a little narrower, her body is a little more lean and she just looks a little less stocky as a result.  To see her though she is unmistakably beagle.  I got her from an amish guy at a market.
I don't know what it is about Maryland but I swear they didn't want me to have a dog.  I was living in an apartment at the time and before I had a dog I clearly wasn't going to pay the extra fee for it, I went to one shelter and tried to adopt but they called the apartment and they said that I couldn't own a dog because I wasn't paying for it.  The shelter just cut me off, so I went to another shelter and this time I thought I would outsmart them and tell them I owned a house which was actually just my girlfriend at the times familys house, they said I needed to come in for an interview and that so did her parents because they were going to be living there too.  I couldn't believe what it was taking to adopt a dog from a shelter that they were likely going to euthanize anyway.  I was getting desperate so I went to a petstore and tried to buy a (possibly insane) beagle from them, it was going to be 500 dollars and the petstore wouldn't give me their petstore loan even with my good credit.  I decided to go to a far away shelter that was down toward my girlfriends house and on the way we just stopped at a farmers market for some reason that I can not remember.  Thats where I saw this litter of beagle pups, I just asked the guy how much and paid him and grabbed the first one that lifted its head up.  I guess I lucked out because amish don't make calls or anything (which is most likely not a good situation in some cases) but for me it worked out well.
